Akata Warrior by Nnedi Okorafor
3.0
More so a 3.5 for me. It was good, but at times it seemed TOO detailed and dragged on. For example, one of the chapters was about Sunny's brother getting into trouble at his university. That could've EASILY been half a chapter! Other than that, good story.
Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds

More so a 3.5. I didn't REALLY get into the book until 55% in. Narrator wasn't my favorite either.
The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin

I felt the prologue wasn't really needed, and too long, in my opinion. Besides that, I really liked this book. It would be cool to see other cities/states incorporated in the future books.
Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo

I was engaged the entire time. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the book once I heard it would be written in verse. But it actually added to the story, in my opinion.
A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow
Yeeeah, it wasn't for me. I feel like if you have a really good grasp on greek mythology, you'll be able to keep up with the pace. I pushed through, because I'm not a quitter, and winners never quit lol. But I, personally, would've liked a little background on mythos, elokos, etc.
