Yeah... this is definitely a tiktok book. I like that the MC and her love interest are both 'immortal' creatures that are both adults. Most of the fae love interest in other books use the 500 years old man x 17 years old girl (coughSarahJMasscough). I also like that Riven is a kind loving man to Keera and not some brooding possesive asshole.
However those are the only things that I can praised. My biggest problem with this series is the writing. Blair is simply not a good writer. Her writing's very mediocre and feels very YA (I would even say it feels like the younger end of YA). The prose is too basic and there are a lot of telling instead of showing.
From the start, this series was just a mediocre Tiktok fantasy series but since I already started it, I would probably finish it by reading the last book when it comes out.

Queer poly vampire is simply the best. Like, I was never interested in vampire fiction (why Twilight so beloved by the media even though it was racist and terrible written will forever be a mystery to me) but then I discovered queer vampire stories and I never looked back. Love all the characters and the intimacies in their coupling. My favourite is probably Leon, just because I like characters that hide their pain by joking around and his character design is objectively the best (I have weakness for long haired pretty man).
I did find several minor mistakes in the book, like when the title POV said Leon but it was actually Claire's POV or a comma was misplaced. I didn't care much for it but I do noticed it.

This is WAY too long. At some point, I started thinking 'it's over, wrap it up' and just skipped their sex scenes.
I'm not cishet so romantic attraction is probably different to me, but I personally don't understand how Sloane fell in love with Dominic after fucking a few times. Like, she 'hated' him and then suddenly lusted after him then fell in love. How did that happened??? Where did that come from?? How did the feelings changed so easily??
Also I'm not a fan of how they discussed her dead husband in the last part. It's great they acknowledged that Sloane never regret anything and their relationship wouldn't work without Eric, but the whole thing where she said that 'she belonged to him (Dominic) before she ever belonged to Eric' was so unnecessary. The 'soulmate' thing between Dominic and Sloane is just annoying and unnecessary. It made her relationship with Eric cheap, as if Eric is just something to step over to get to her real soulmate.
I hope I like the author's other works because this isn't exactly a good start.

I feel bad for giving it such a low stars but this is a prove that being overambitious is not good for you.
18 characters with only one POV each... How is it possible for somebody to even think this is a good idea?? I spent more time trying to remember who is who than enjoying the mystery or the characters. This would be so much better if it was a collections of short stories in the same magical school setting than 18 characters in one murder mystery.
It really is too bad because I like the idea and was looking forward to this but the execution is bad.

Why do I need to read his mother's POV? Why do I need to care about her romance with some man when this is not her book?
I came her for lady pirate romance and with the expectation that this will be some cat-and-mouse type of romance. I thought this is a standalone romance that can be read alone but you can't because the main romance sometimes feels like an afterthought.
Anyway, this is my second Beverly Jenkins books and I can't say I enjoy them.

Idk if it's the writing style or the plot or the characters, but this is boring.
The romance was supposedly slow burn but at their first meet, Gideon and Ana María already like each other. My perception of slow burn romance is that there should be a believable buildup between the relationship stages and they shouldn't be on the verge of falling in love at their first time meeting each other.
This is honestly disappointing because I was looking forward to this book. It's too bad that only Queen Bee by Amalia Howard match my expectations.

Not S. A. Chakraborty's best work.
The Daevabad Trilogy is one of my favourite series of all time. I love the characters (not Dara), the plot and the romance (Ali x Nahri) is so fucking good. This on the other hand feels boring. I wasn't attached to the characters at all, in fact I think every characters in this book (except for Amina) are only explored surface level. They all have one type of personality with no depth. I'm the type of person that can ignore a bad story (not saying that the story here is bad, of course) as long as I love the characters so this is very disappointing to me, especially because of how much I love Ali and Nahri in Chakraborty's previous works.
I don't have any strong feeling about this so 2.5 stars.

Look, I love to read erotica now and then but I feel like if you want to write a novel-length erorica then you should probably add some plot. Back to back sex scenes are very boring to me, especially when the sex scenes weren't very creative. I personally prefer intimacy in sex scenes so maybe this just isn't for me. The monster mens are also all the typical supernatural creatures that are pretty much just spicy humans (ex : vampire, werewolf, invisible man etc).
Idk, just a very boring erotica but if you want to read an 'all vibes no plot' book, then this would be great.

The most beautifully written story I've ever read and in such a short pages too. I found myself tearing up by the intimacy and the tenderness of the writing. I can't describe how beautiful this book is. It was so good, I understand why everyone is talking about it back then.
