this book is thick, ultimately I was just excited to get to the end.

very cute, low stakes. pacing towards the end felt rushed, but I enjoyed all the characters.

did the first draft get published instead of the final or what.

this book has so much potential with so many great plot points, but the constant lapse in time and endless monologues about long distance relationships lost me.
I  was debating making this 3 stars because I liked the premise, but the characters felt so underdeveloped, how am I supposed to care about anyone. half of this whole book was about caring for a mother with dementia and she felt less of a character and more like a prop for the fmc.

this book was a lot of repetitive platitudes, with every character talking in circles. I probably should have dnf’d, but I really thought something life changing was going to happen by the end. I still might read the 2nd book just to get the other side of it, but that could be another 6 years from now.

I did appreciate how quick & to the point it was, but overall felt rushed. it was so dream-like in that you kind of expected what was going to happen next, but wasn’t sure how you’d get to the next point.

I loved this book.  the characters are written so well—whether white, black, or one of the kids—each one had a certain nuance to them that really pressed the themes of racial disparity.

be gay do crimes. enjoyed this one from start to finish. with this being a queer horror novel, the witty banter is exactly the type of comedic relief I need in between the gory details.

there were parts  I wish were more fleshed out, they felt more like summaries of what was going on vs the reader actively being apart of it.
I was excited to finally experience the hive mind, but the explanation of the history of the hive/reasoning behind past disappearances felt so one-dimensional.

this went exactly the direction I was hoping, while still surprising me.
