100 pages too long but overall pretty good

Better than I thought it was going to be but still weird. 200pgs too long. But honestly a good story for the current generation.

Good but not great. Wouldn't read it again but MUST read every Tudor book published because forever and always a period piece girlie!

Concept of the book was great. The writing is dated for me and made it kinda meh. The book did come out in 2002 so makes sense. Was a quick read so made it a bit better for sure.

This story was very interesting. Probably 500 pages too long, but overall a good story!
Hunger's Brides is an ambitious and sprawling historical novel that delves deep into the turbulent times of the Spanish Conquest of Mexico. Set against the backdrop of the Aztec Empire’s fall, the novel weaves together historical facts with intricate fiction to create a compelling narrative that is both informative and engaging.
At its core, Hunger's Brides explores the clash of civilizations between the Aztecs and the Spanish conquistadors, focusing on the intersecting lives of various characters caught in the turmoil. Anderson employs a richly detailed setting, immersing readers in the grandeur and brutality of the era.
This is a richly layered historical novel that offers a deep and nuanced exploration of one of history’s most dramatic confrontations. While its ambitious scope may challenge some readers, those who appreciate a thorough and immersive historical narrative will find it a rewarding read.

Thanks to Entangled Publishing for sending me this ARC!

I absolutely loved the dystopian romantasy vibes of this story! The romance, action and mystery were all balanced perfectly.
The plot twist at the end...HELLO!? Never saw that coming! The world building was done so well and feels so large that it seems we could easily get a prequel, a sequel and maybe a novella or two.
Two things held this back from being a 5 star for me. First, I feel like the YA tag on it held it back a little. The romance could have been a touch spicier (like half a pepper spicier) and some more horror in the middle of the book to pick things up a bit would have been great!
And the second thing, every time it was "...she hissed" or "...he growled". She isn't a snake...he isn't a wolf, why did the author keep using those words? Hiss or hissed was used 44 times and growl or growled was used 40 times. I dunno know but that really irked me after a while.

HOLY PLOT TWIST! This book was incredible. There isn't a single thing I can say that I didn't like about it. I loved seeing all the pictures in the book, this made it all seem so much more real and kept me immersed into the story. This is a must read for everyone!

A better ending couldn't have been written for this story. All of the lore in the book was even better than the first. Seeing everything tie together was so satisfying. The continued banter between the MCs was perfection. The world seems so large that I could see a spinoff happening and it being a good read also. I do feel that the book was a smidge too long. There are easily some parts that could have been omitted and not left holes. The twist was like "sure, I guess I could see that" but not really as impactful as anticipated. However this was still a legit wrap up to the series.

I didn't think it was possible to love Darcy more but after reading this I most certainly do! This story was a PERFECT fit to what I assumed was the mind of Darcy while I read Pride and Prejudice. The way his relationship formed with Elizabeth from this point of view was everything! I love how straightforward this story was and glad it wasn't stretched into 400+ pages. It was almost like the perfect novella to go along with P&P.
