This was a cute super fast read! I related so much to this book. Like the main character, I also went to Le Cordon Bleu and worked in fine dining restaurants. Being a female in this industry is as tough and rewarding as the author has laid out for the readers.
Story was cute...characters were cute...very much a cliché damsel in distress works her way thru it and gets the guy in the end. All in all worth a few hours of your time to read.

Whew, I am NOT a crier but I am still wiping tears from my eyes after just finishing this book! I'm not quite sure what I was expecting from this book but I got 100x more than expected. I feel like a small part of my heart that needed healing, which I didn't know needed it, was healed after reading this story. I need a prequel...I need a sequel...I need supporting novellas...I need them all!
The author has created a tale that is both enchanting and thought-provoking, leaving readers with a lingering sense of wonder and a renewed appreciation for the stories that define us. Central to the novel is the theme of the power of stories themselves — how they shape lives, connect people across generations, and reveal universal truths.
This would make an incredible movie...Benicio del Toro needs to read this book!

I had heard so many good things about this book and was looking forward to this book so much. I REALLY wanted to love it. The first hundred pages had me hooked. The emotional parts were done well.
...but...the rest of the book kind of dragged out, was repetitive and predictable. The book should have been called "Us Against the World". The library wasn't the main focus as I was expecting and wanted. It was just the "side chick" to the "against all odds I shall protect my daughter" theme. The little that actually took place in the library, I feel like half the scenes were fluff. And can we talk about what a wet blanket Emma is? With all the women empowerment rah-rah going on in the story, when someone looks down on her for being a working mother or questions her motives, she turns into an Eeyore.
Super disappointed.

I am normally pretty good at figuring out the ending, but this one...WHAT A DOOZY!
The book primarily focuses on the experiences of the dictator's wife, offering a unique perspective often overshadowed by the spotlight on the dictator himself. The author skillfully navigates through the personal and political landscapes, providing intimate details of the protagonist's life—her aspirations, struggles, and the intricate web of alliances and betrayals that define her existence.
The author's prose is evocative, painting vivid scenes that transport readers into the opulent palaces and secretive corridors of power. The narrative unfolds with a sense of urgency, keeping readers engrossed as they witness the protagonist's evolution from innocence to disillusionment, from compliance to defiance.

This book was...interesting to say the least. I dont even remember buying nor have any idea why I thought I would like it. Its quirky spice.
You are basically reading a transcript of a phone sex conversation between a man and a woman that call a sex hotline. But its not what you think of after hearing that description. Its not like you are reading a porn script, its weird and funny past experiences they've had that rabbit hole into other stories that aren't spicy at all. That is until the last 15 or so pages...then you are on a RIDE.

I'm not sure how much of the content in this book is historical fact vs conspiracy theory vs flat out fiction but its going to have me Googling later for sure, I'm intrigued...
Set entirely in a hotel room and formatted like a transcript from a cassette tape, the narrative unfolds as two friends engage in an intense conversation that revolves around a plan to assassinate the President of the United States.
I found the story very thought-provoking and a stimulating read that challenges conventional narratives about activism and dissent.

This was a quick read but kinda boring.
The story is about a man that wrote a journal entry every day that he lit a fire and the final journal entry came when he used the last match in the box.
He told random stories about his wife and kids and pets.
Normally this author writes quirky and wonky stories but this was... normal. Which I think is why I found it kind of boring.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! I relate SO much to the women in this story.
The author takes us on a journey through the lives of individuals whose paths intersect in unexpected ways. "Someone Else's Shoes" is a captivating exploration of life's complexities and the bonds that unite us. Jojo Moyes continues to prove her mastery of storytelling, delivering a narrative that is both emotionally resonant and thought-provoking. This novel is a testament to the power of empathy and a reminder of the transformative potential of understanding one another's journeys.

I have a love hate relationship with this book which is why it took me so long to read. The historical fiction aspect, loved it. The overall story, loved it. But the time jumping, in this book...I didn't love. It was abrupt and took too long to jump back and left me like "wait, what happened before".
The narrative unfolds in dual timelines, alternating between the story of Alais, a young woman living in the 13th century during the tumultuous times of the Crusades, and Alice, a modern-day archaeologist who stumbles upon a cave containing ancient artifacts that could change history.
