I want to sew this book up in my ribs. Thank you to netgalley and Tor for the chance to experience a loved book again with this eArc 🥰

Aurelia Schwartz is a witch who is struggling with her magic, both the fact of keeping it hidden at Cambridge and with it's basic functions. Theodore Ingram is her academic rival, and the spite really drips off the page with these two.

They end up thrown together with the discovery that they are both witches and are being hunted by a witch killer. They are forced to take refuge in a family cottage in the countryside under protective wards.

This book's pacing feels slow at the beginning, it's heavy with metaphor and imagery. But for fans of this kind of story, it's slow burn perfection and the pages are absoutely bursting with yearning. It's clever and funny, and the color of magic is gold ✨

I read this half via audio and half physical. There's so much insanity in this book. The hashtags.... I just.

This was really fun. There's some bits where I was absolutely giggling and speechless and other moments I was rolling my eyes, but it was all worth it.

Marcela experiences some varied confidence in her body and her outfits that I can really relate to, and although I was yelling at her to just SAY IT the whole book, I still loved her.

The only thing that really killed me was every time she said "We're rebounds " 😂😂😂

This was challenging to say the least. I found myself putting it down and just being like .....yikes. it's interesting to read speculative dystopian literature that's not at all futuristic. It's also a little haunting that Butler imagines a ravaged climate and the hellhole that she did and it not feeling completely unreasonable.

The way the horrors were just dryly presented makes complete sense in context, but as a reader I was 😨

I can see why this is polarizing. I'm not sure what my final thoughts are on this. I think I enjoyed audio more than I would've other formats.

I really liked this one. I loved both main characters and the silly storyline. Top tier reading experience about fun characters enjoying an all inclusive resort for the first time while I was at an all inclusive resort with my besties for the first time. The writing in and outside of the dialogue is so witty and fun, the girlies and I had a wonderful wonderful time cackling together poolside about this book. I'm excited to check out this author's other work.
