Two Can Play by Ali Hazelwood

Romance novellas are not for everyone because they can feel too fast, but imo Ali is in her bag here. I love it every time.
the biggest criticism I've seen of this is it feels too instalove- but for too people who respect and admire each other who've been circling each other with sexual tension for years..... It totally makes sense to me
Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell

This was so nice. A cozy story about meeting the people you love where they're at, even if where they're at is that they eat people. And also they're a monster who may have murdered your family.
It's SO funny also.

I had a hard time with this one. Second chance romances are not my favorite but Alistair and Poppy just didn't feel believable to me. There wasn't much to why they got together in the first place besides cartoon villain mustache twirling schemes and horniness and .....them getting back together wasn't much for me either. There is a lot of telling of their changes but I still don't really get why they're together beyond the chemistry they say they have, and the one that got away.
I think if you were into witchy stuff more, or maybe read the other books first, or if you were into the process of blending teas/brewing beer and kombucha maybe this would be more compelling to you. I just found this to be too much telling and the inner monologue of both characters was repetitive and not for me.
Thanks to netgalley for the arc ✌️

This was a pretty good holiday read. I did a mix of digital and audio and enjoyed the writing in general.
It's not exactly a second chance because they weren't previously together but there's a long history of pining that feels like it. I'm interested in reading the other book about the FMC's friends 👀

The way I would be IMMEDIATELY in love with these characters dude. I'm the best friend watching them volley and fanning myself. Some of the characters were over the top in the BEST way and the banter and bickering really worked imo. MCs who call each other in their shit but ultimately are super compatible and super down bad and know when to push and respect each other.
I couldn't put this book down even if I wanted to. It ended way too soon.

This one is weird for me to rate, but I think it does what it sets out to do very well and I was invested in the characters.

I loved this book. I went out of order, so it's not my favorite, but if I'd started with it it might be. This was the perfect soft book for me to read at this time.
Smut by Karina Halle

This was supposed to be self aware and off putting, writers writing writers and romance novelist writing characters who are disdainful of romance. It's very typical of a KU romance but the "real literature" got old very quickly. Extra funny for a book called smut for the smut to not start until like 60% in 😂😂
