I only read this for the smut, the plot is non existent. Everyone’s allowed a quarter life crisis but yikes was this MESSY. The MMC said “babe” like a million times and it me gag every. single. time.

reading this book in a single sitting gave me a book hangover like no other.

I ugly cried on my couch because this was one of the most emotionally traumatizing rollercoasters I’ve ever been on. I would give my life for the Bennett pack, sign me up for Team Human.

This entire book just felt so impractical.

The author tried so hard to make Gwen this bad ass FMC but she really came off annoyingly paranoid, in need of a Xanax and extremely chaotic.
What was the most annoying part is that she STILL ended up almost a damsel in distress.

Her inner monologue was repetitive and felt this book moved quite slow. I couldn’t get sucked into the storyline and wasn’t impressed by the twist.

It has a great plot, and the spooky psychological thriller vibes were present. However, I simply had a hard time getting drawn in and staying present while reading. I struggled to connect with the characters and found myself skimming, especially the anniversary letters.

Was this book possibly overhyped? Yes.
Is it still a good spooky season read? Yes.

This read like and had a writing style similar to Freida McFadden. If you like her books, definitely give this a shot!

disclaimer: i don’t really write thriller reviews because I don’t know how without spoiling them.

This is my third Sager book, and I'm still obsessed with the way he keeps you on the edge of your seat. This book has major spooky vibes and is a perfect October/fall read. The mystery was intense, and Sager is quite good at making you feel like you're both a step ahead while being confused, second-guessing yourself. I honestly had no idea where each chapter would take me. However, the ending was slightly underwhelming, and out of all the possibilities I thought of, that one didn't even cross my mind.

An unexciting ramble featuring Auren, a girl with (and I can't stress this enough) severe Stockholm syndrome who thinks it's perfectly acceptable to live in a cage.

She's slightly annoying, and often her inner monologue gets repetitive and whiny. I honestly couldn't tell you a single important thing that happened in this book because there wasn't one.

But I'm willing to give book two a shot because this is a buddy read, she's already started, and I won't leave her to suffer alone.

I would like to note that the way this author used the word "saddle" should be a CRIME and resulted in the loss of half a star.

Official short review: “Just shut up and kiss each other already, my god. You’re making everyone else miserable.”

Klune’s second Green Creek novel has my inner Team Jacob screaming. It’s a bit slower than book one, but it’s mainly due to the repetitiveness of Mark and Gordos’ relationship trauma and Gordos’ abandonment issues. I loved the continued inclusion of secondary Team Human characters and getting a more intimate look at their relationship with Gordo. Most importantly, they bring great one-liners and often a humorous tone, which is needed.

I experienced every emotion while reading this, mainly stress due to Gordos’ inability to let it go. I do wish we got more details about the magic system. However, the way this book ended gives me hope for book three. 👀

Everything I said about book one still stands. BUT if you can get past Dianna’s 200ish pity party this book oddly gets better?? Some SERIOUS truth bombs and dirty family laundry gets aired, someone gets a cringy nickname, and two powerful celestials learn to share their feelings after thousands of years of bottling them up.

However, my biggest issue is this book was marketed (at least to me) as a romance. It is not. The plot-to-smut ratio in this book doesn't align with that "genre" and is definitely more fantasy. It has some intense world-building and a lot of key characters (who at least have normal names).
