I read this book pretty young so it was hard for me to grasp the problematic writing and glamorization of suicide. Now, reviewing it as a young adult, it makes me cringe how glamorized suicide was in this book is.
The dystopian analogies of logic vs emotion are extremely simplified, making emotion “bad” and logic “good”. Even though the first sign of civilization is seeing a skeleton with a broken then healed femur bone, meaning others stayed back to help them.
Greg is a mean kid, I don’t like reading his diary that much, he would definitely be an “edge lord” in more recent times.
Honestly, I don’t blame him for yeeting himself out of this world, I would hate to live in that dystopian society too
