"I think about a quote I read once in a letter written by one of my favourite authors, Charlotte Bronte. 'I can be on guard against my enemies, but God deliver me from my friends.' I wonder if that includes family members too."

We follow Nina and her mum Maggie in this story, who have lived under the same roof for their entire lives. They have dinner together every other night and once they are finished with their meals, Nina leads Maggie back up to her bedroom in the attic and locks her in, where she is kept with a chain locked around her ankle.

"I thought that having a baby meant that I would always be loved by someone until the day I died. I was wrong. Being a mother is no guarantee of anything."

This book was a mix of so many thrillers in one and it gave me things I have been hoping for in all of those stories. There's twists and turns, you literally don't know what lies are going to come out of the woodworks and the ending was so satisfying, thank God! I'm sick of being let down by those endings.

Both Maggie and Nina are so unlikable and they just get worse and worse as the story goes on.

"She carries death around with the casualness of a handbag."

This was a solid thriller, I'm so glad I picked it up!

THAT ENDING. THANK YOU KARIN.
