First time I read this I gave it a 1 star..
After picking up the rest of the series I went back to this one, now I give it a 4 star.
I love this series, I love Will Trent. I'm obsessed.

That was one of the best short stories I've ever read. I don't usually do missing children stories but Karin as always, done it so well. Will Trent and his crew are so clever and that ending was the most beautiful ending ever, I actually had tears in my eyes, happy tears, from a KARIN SLAUGHTER book!
This short story wasn't as enjoyable as Snatched but I always enjoy being with Will Trent.
We got off to a rocky start, there were things I couldn't get my head around, Maxim seemed like a prick and I didn't see the connection between him and his new love interest.
I wish there was more suspense to the initial attraction and they didn't fall for each other so easily, I hated the way Maxim said 'fuck' all of the time and I was listening to this via audible which I think made parts of the book hard to accept.
Although there were issues of course, just like Fifty Shades, I devoured it. E L James' writing is addictive and the story was fun and easy to read. I literally read this in one day and it's a 500+ paged book (which I did think was unnecessary).
Maxim grew on me, his protectiveness was just lovely, I was glad that he wasn't a prick all of the way through and the relationship in this book was so lovely especially at the end of the book, I was left grinning from ear to ear.
I also have a feeling there could be more to come.. I hope there is.

Bits of this story were entertaining and had great potential but as always Stephen King goes off into little tangents that we could have done without, only King can make a short story feel like a full length novel. I've seen bits of the film and definitely think I'll enjoy it better.
Will Trent? YES
Jack Reacher? Yes
Will Trent & Jack Reacher together? No.

This definitely wasn't as good as Bird Box but there's something about these books, this post apocalyptic world with these creatures that make me happy. I've always wanted to get into post apocalyptic books and these are the only ones that I've managed to enjoy so far which says something.
I like that it's shorter and it could come off as a novella and I think I'd kind of like a third book to see how things have progressed which I wouldn't usually want from these type of books.
I really can't stick my finger on it but I just really enjoy being with these characters around these creatures even if a whole lot doesn't happen. Although Tom really did piss me off for 90% of the book but I get why he acts the way he does.

A high 3 star rating. This definitely got better as it went on, I really enjoyed the reveal of Project Nemesis and definitely want to pick up the next book!
