I’m so very confused on how I feel about this book. My rating was either going to be a 2 or a 3, I had mixed feelings but because I was ready to DNF this book at 75% it gets a 2.
Like I said, I don’t really know how I feel. I was in a love/hate relationship with The Fifth Season for so long, the world was to me, rather confusing and all the terminology totally threw me off and kept me from connecting to the story but then there was certain pages where it actually all made sense and I started getting back into it and really enjoying it, not long after though I would be straight back to the confusing bits.
I could pick no fault with N.K. Jemisin’s writing, if the plot was faster paced and made sense to me then I’m sure I would have loved reading this book but as I said, I just couldn’t connect.
I loved the ending and I loved Damaya/Syenite and Alabaster but I’m really not sure if that’s enough to make me want to read the next book and I’m quite heartbroken because I wanted my whole heart to be taken over by these characters, unfortunately it just wasn’t that good 😕

I love Shari Lapena's writing and one of my favourite books by her is The Unwanted Guest, which is a murder mystery novel.
I found Couple Next Door to be just okay which was a psychological thriller just like this one, which, surprisingly, with it being one of her newest releases was really disappointing.
I was bored from start to finish, I was considering DNFing but I wanted to give it a chance as I thought it would get better and if not it wouldn't be that bad anyway, but I just wish I had given up, I got nothing from this story, the characters were awful and I didn't care for the plot which was rather dry!

Oh my WHAT. No way did it just end like that? This book is FULL of suspense, I can't even find the words to explain. I NEED TO READ THE NEXT BOOK.
Can't wait to pick up the second book when I wake up. Lorenzo is everything! I'm so glad to have picked a mafia romance up and I'll definitely be reading more going forward.
I believe I rated Second Son a 4 star originally. Its a fine story but don't think it's worthy of a 4 star, I'm reconsidering re-reading the short stories as I don't think there's much impact with them and there's quite a few I hated first time around.
Brandon Sanderson does it again!
I am a huge fan of Mistborn Era 1 and I finally felt the urge to pick up Era 2, I'm so glad I did. He started Mistborn Era 1 with a bang, it is an epic fantasy world that is beautifully constructed and has an amazing magic system to follow.
Then he gives us Era 2! It's the same but different, it's modernised, it's adaptive and it's SO well done. I don't know how he does it but to create a whole new feeling, a whole new experience for readers to enjoy after giving such an amazing first half is pretty inspiring to say the least, Sanderson makes me question how someone can be such a good writer, have so much creativity and hit every nail on the head, but he manages it every time.
I'm in awe of this author because I find myself to be a fairly new fantasy reader and he always makes it so easy for me to want to read more from him.
I will say I gave The Way of Kings a try and struggled but I believe I probably wasn't in the right mindset for it and/or the story itself might not be for me, that's not to say his writing ever faulted, that is one thing I can say with confidence, Brandon's writing never flops.
I love Wax and Wayne, the ending made me eager to start the second book so that's what I'm going to do, I think it was a solid first book but definitely was just the beginning of the journey, I'm excited to go on but also to see what other installments he brings to the Mistborn collection!
