After starting 2023 with straight-up fantasy, I decided I needed a break. A thriller from one of my favourite authors did just the trick.

I DNF'd Blindsighted (1st in Grant County series) years ago, then attempted it again in 2020 after I binged and loved the Will Trent series. On 2nd attempt, this book got 5 stars, and now, here we are on my 3rd go, and it's still just as good! I've never gotten around to reading all of the books in the Grant County series, so here we are, attempting it. I'd like to get it done before the new Will Trent release this year, which I think is definitely doable as Slaughter's writing, her stories, and her characters are so addictive!

The characters are definitely what make Karin's books for me, I'm so invested in them and find that the stories are really easy to go back to which can't be said for a lot of thrillers. Blindsighted took me by surprise on this read too because I totally forgot who the killer was and even though all the signs were there, screaming and shouting at my from the pages, I still didn't guess who did it.. I was so shocked when the reveal happened, and I started connecting the dots.

It might be strange to say but all of Karin's books are full of gore and hard hitting topics but I find a lot of comfort in them and I'm looking forward to getting comfy with the rest of the series.

...

4th read, because I never ended up finishing this series!! My experience has been, DNF'd Blindsighted, read Will Trent series, came back to Grant County, read and loved Blindsighted, then ended up dnfing Kisscut. Came back to try again, read and loved both Blindsighted and Kisscut (although I won't be rereading Kisscut as it's just soooo dark, I don't mind dark but it's super depressing and I don't want to put myself through that again) then dnfed A Faint Cold Fear. Now, guess what? I'm back. I've reread Blindsighted. By this point, I'm well aware of how this story goes, and I enjoyed it just the same.

I've decided I want to read this whole series no matter what, I have to get through it at least once so I can know my full thoughts on the series. I'm meeting Karin next month too with my partner, so we're buddy reading as many of her books as we can before meeting her

This book begins with a great opening chapter, it hooks you into the story straight away. The chapters are really short for the most part and the writing / format was so easy to read so I had so much fun reading this book.

Bird Box alternates between the present day situations and the past (where everything began) the story is apocalyptic which I loved! I’ve been looking for a good (realistic) apocalyptic story and here it is! The whole book from start to finish is so freaking intense, I mean could you imagine having to keep your eyes closed (because that’s how the creatures get to you) but feeling/hearing/sensing something is near you... just thinking about parts of this story gives me the shivers.

I was so tense throughout all of this book that I actually felt my body relax when I finished! I would defiantly recommended this book if you don’t mind a bit of a scare! The characters were fab and I don’t think I can find a thing to complain about. It only gets a 4 star just because it doesn’t reach the standards of some of the others books I have read but it’s definitely worth the hype!

I read this book in one sitting, it was a fast paced fun read. Warm Bodies is hard to explain, it focuses on a zombie that starts to have feelings and memories of his past life when he meets a girl he used to know.

This book is fun and quirky. The romance was sweet and I actually quite like that it was different even if it was very unrealistic even for a book about zombies

Wow.

The only thing I regret is that I didn’t read this book sooner, I’ve seen all of the films and love them but I can’t help but wonder how much I’d be obsessed with these books if I had read them before watching the films and at a younger age.

This book in particular had me in awe. It was full of excitement and love. When watching the films I’ve always been Team Edward and have never understood how anybody could be Team Jacob, but bloody hell, after reading Eclipse I understand Jacob fans, I understand. Them last few pages ripped my heart to shreds.

I will admit there were a couple of things that bugged me a little, there was a mix up with dates at one point and all of a sudden Edward started calling Bella “love” quite often, more than necessary but other than those minor details I loved this book with all my heart.

I can’t wait to get on to Breaking Dawn.

Ragdoll is a detective series following Detective William Fawkes known as The Wolf and Detective Emily Baxter, they first arrive at a crime scene to see parts of six different victims bodies sewn together to look like a puppet.

To begin with I loved the two detectives, especially Baxter with her quick wit and strong personality. But that love started to die down over half way through the story, Wolf began to get boring and Baxter got needy and irritating. I didn’t actually mind how Baxter acted near the end of the book but it bothered me how unlike her it seemed, she’s a strong woman that lets nothing bother her and all of a sudden she was drunk and vulnerable. I get everyone has their weaknesses but it was too sudden for my liking.

The story itself died down near the end too, it got dragged out too long for me and the actual ending to the story really disappointed me, it was very anticlimactic and boring ☹️

I’ve said it many times and I’ll keep saying it... Chris Carter has given me REALLY high standards when it comes to thrillers, I wasn’t surprised that I didn’t like this book as much as I like Carter’s books but I did expect to like this a lot more.

I am still interested in carrying on with the series I’m just hoping the books get stronger.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Honestly, the thriller elements of this book were just as good if not better than the first in the series but this one loses a star because of the smushy relationship details added into it and I didn't enjoy the romance side plot in this book.

Other than that though, epic suspense novel.

Ugh. This book dragged. It was rather unrealistic. AND there was quite a few spelling mistakes or just sentences that made NO sense.

I wish I liked this book, I really do. I enjoyed the characters, I could feel the suspense throughout and it was an easy-ish read but it was boring, not a lot happened it was just a whole lot of, who's the baddy?

This books is quite a bit different from the movie, still really enjoyed it. I think I enjoyed Twilight more this time around though, New Moon was a 3 star until near the very end, I just really need my Cullens.
