woah. WHAT A BOOK!!!! i don't think i've ever felt this intensely while reading something!! the end gave me closure in a way that i felt satisfied and happy. i had an anxiety attack when
she found the first evidence planted against daniel. i could feel her terror, imagine myself as her, living with a killer. i'm glad her father was freed, too.

pleasantly surprised when I reached ⅗ of the book. the plot twists left me flabbergasted! at first, it was just a little delightful read (it took months for me to actually sit down and read more than a few pages), but as it went on it became incredibly good!

others love the idea of you; not you as a whole. if confronted by unexpected changes, everyone eventually crumbles.

in my own view, this book has principles for everyone; for me, several of the principles can be made use of, but others cannot apply to me (no, i'll never hold back my laugh, and vain conversations about daily things aren't as abhorrent as presented in this book). there are many reflections i wouldn't have thought of myself, and i'm pretty thankful to have stumbled upon the philosophy combo that this book came in.

the end wasn't what I expected — it's thanks to my biased view on religion, though. John's father is an absolute scum on the earth, representing several religious "men of the house" who are utterly rotten and hide under the guise of being God's. I despise him deeply, and I hope Florence has, indeed, shown the letter at least to Elizabeth before dying. out of all characters, Richard was the best one. just like Elizabeth, I wish she had to him she was pregnant before he killed himself.

after seeing a video in camus' absurdism, i picked up this book as the first i'd read from him. it has been a great introduction to absurdism, and a delightfully reflective read.

A captivating, memorable read that will surely stay in my heart for a long time. Regardless of the actions and decisions of the main characters, I empathized with all of them, felt their pain as if it were my own. In each of them, there was something I have experienced or am going through, and that made me connect even more with them. My heart felt heavy with this ending.
