don't be like me and start this book because people kept saying it's enemies-to-lovers, it's not.
fortunately for me, though, i still enjoyed the book despite being initially disappointed that it's not really enemies-to-lovers. i absolutely love piper, she's a girly girl, and i'm absolutely here for it. i could have honestly do without the sex in hospital
oh, what absolute cuties olive and adam are <3 tom can absolutely go fuck himself as a healthcare student, i am so glad i understood the few instances something science-y was mentioned. i also found it funny whenever olive would poke fun at the different romance tropes, my kind of girl
to keep my peace of mind, i choose to ignore the fact that this was originally an alt-universe Reylo fanfiction
rating: 3.5 romance tropes: best friend's brother, enemies-to-lovers, age gap (10 years) book type: standalone point of view: 1st person, dual
it's an okay story. it's slow-paced but it's easy to read (for me, at least) so it only took me a day to finish. though, the writing is kind of comes out as pretentious at some parts, especially with the use of these random words.
the characters were infuriating at first, but then they grow on you after and i began to like them.
Minor: Adult/minor relationship and Sexual assault
adult/minor relationship: added this warning because it was mentioned at the later part of the book that emery's mother had a secret relationship (even considers him as her high school sweetheart) with her health when she was in high school (16 years old) and got pregnant with emery
sexual assault: able attempts to sexually assault/rape emery when they were alone together during the cotillion, but thankfully she knees him down there
rating: 2.5 romance type: paranormal romance book type: standalone point of view: 3rd pov limited
Thank you NetGalley, Kensington Books, and Therese Beharrie for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This review (and finishing the book) is waaaay overdue, but anyway on to the review.
I won't lie: my expectations for this book were so low for the book.
At one point I thought that I'd leave a one-star review, but it somewhat got a tiny little bit better around the second half that I bumped it up another star. Not that much, but it's not a one-star.
The plot was promising, I liked the premise, but the actual story was disappointing. A lot of parts just kept jumping from one scene to another, it was confusing. Sometimes, I had to reread a couple times to get what's going on because it kept jumping scenes. It took me the longest time to even reach 50% because of this, but I somehow did.
The main characters (MCs) were okay. Sadly, I couldn't connect with them much.
Overall, A Ghost in Shining Armor is an okay book. Nothing much to it, pretty standard.
Thank you NetGalley, Bold Strokes Books, and Dena Blake for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Not going to lie, I forgot I even had this book sitting in my NetGalley shelf. The minute I found it and read the blurb, I was excited. Unfortunately, the book didn't really live up to my expectations.
One thing that made me continue with this book was because I found out in the earlier chapters that Rachel's a physical therapist and, I don't know, there's just something about having something like being a physical therapist (manifesting!) in common make me continue. It makes no sense, but I have no idea how else to explain it, LOL.
Moving on to the actual story, Rachel's annoying and Blair's a sweetheart. There was just something about the way that Rachel handled things that made it extremely infuriating. And I'm pretty sure Rachel's just leading Blair on. I'm not entirely convinced she actually loves Blair, which makes me think that despite this having a HEA (Happily Ever After) ending, they won't last that long.
Overall, it's an okay book. It's a fast and easy read.
