Lost at Sea by Bryan Lee O’Malley

First, let’s talk about the art style. It was nice, functional. I’m usually into more colorful styles but this one was quirky when it needed to be quirky and pretty when it needed to be pretty. It was nice.
Now the book itself, it felt slightly pretentious but that seemed to be the style the author was going for. I mean it’s about an 18 year old who can be very pretentious when they’re trying to be introspective. So I’m not quite sure how to feel about that.
As for the characters, they were all kind of bland with some defining characterizes. But I did love how they’re just totally accepting that Raleigh has clearly gone insane. Like I would be like “Girl you need therapy.”
It was a meh book.

So our story begins with a Jasnah perspective on the night of her father’s murder. Which is awesome because that woman gives me life. I didn’t know Elhokar has a wife. Weird. Does he have children? Also I guess paranoia runs in the family, Jasnah and Elhokar are both paranoid.
Shallan and Adolin are gonna get married!
Shallan is going diving in a dress. So, do they not have swimsuits?
“I had to spend hours watching bridgemen to sketch their stupid forehead glyphs so you could have them, my friend. I’m pretty sure this is how they were designed. —Nazh”—Page 76
Nazh! He was the guy in Secret History who Khriss employed when they were in the Cognitive Realm.
Would Kaladin and Dalinar just be honest with each other?
Sadeas’s first name is Torol? I don’t trust Ialai, like at all.

Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell by Brandon Sanderson

This was a cool little story, the world was certainly interesting and Silence was a really cool character. Funny enough, I thought Silence was such a weird name but now I really like it. Her whole backstory was just amazing. I know this in the cosmere, I don’t know how it fits into the story. In the beginning Sanderson stated that Hoid wasn’t in it. I’ll have to do some research. All, in all pretty cool story and I’d recommending reading this.

The mom’s head looks a little weird, it’s too oval shaped. Other than that I absolutely love the art style.
I’ve been conditioned by Brandon Sanderson not to trust anything with red eyes, I become very paranoid when Emily’s turns red due to her amulet.
Overall this was a really fun adventure, and I’m excited to continue on with the series!

I didn’t really like this graphic novel as much as I liked the last one. The first half, I found myself forcing myself to keep reading. It was just really boring and I didn’t really care. The second half got better, there was more action, we get to see some of the mythos and more of the elf prince who is probably my favorite character.
I’ll still continue on with this series, now that the whole save mom quest is over and Emily is going to learn more about her powers, I think it’ll be more enjoyable. Plus the elf prince is gonna join up with the gang, so that’ll be fun.

This was better than the last one, I like the elf prince and Luger being part of the team, it’s an interesting dynamic. I don’t have too much to say about this book, it wasn’t nearly as boring as the second one. I’m excited to explore Cielis and get to know that assassin more.

The Last Council by Kazu Kibuishi

The city is Ba Sing Se but if it were filled with stone people and racists. This was a much better book than the last two. I’m super excited to see what happens next, I can’t believe that I was tricked twice by Max. I need the next book!
