Not the End of the World by Hannah Ritchie--One of the most clear books I've read, this book presents an optimistic look at the present and the future. There were times I found myself skipping ahead to the sources to review them because the data felt so counter-intuitive. For example, the number of deaths from natural disasters is dramatically decreasing over time, not increasing with climate change. With that said, this is not a climate change denial book, it is a thoughtful, in-depth examination of policy prescriptions that work and those that are just putting lipstick on a pig. Two thumbs up.

The Perfect Nanny by Leila Silmani--There is little traditional  mystery in this psychological thriller. Instead, it's calm and incisive. Every description and piece of dialogue penetrates further into the lives of a family with a nanny, until the end result feels...not inevitable, but explored. While there's certainly more questions than answers in this book, it's a worthwhile journey nonetheless. Thumbs up.

Don't Believe It by Charlie Donlee--I think this book scratched an itch I didn't know I had. I think there's some ethical problems with exploiting cold cases and the underlying trauma behind them in search of entertainment. But a fictional crime and a fictional true crime documentary? That's something even Kant wouldn't wag a finger at. Focusing on a presumably solved murder in St. Lucia and a documentary maker who desires success, the book is full of fun twists and turns. Thumbs up.
