When I Arrived at the Castle by E.M. Carroll

I LOVED this. So dark and gory, yet beautiful at the same time.
I loved the art and how red was the only colour we got. It was truly haunting. I wish it was longer!
I immediately want to read it again

A Restless Truth by Freya Marske
3.0
This was so disappointing 😭
I thoroughly enjoyed A Marvellous Light and was so excited to get to this, despite hearing mixed things. While the beginning was enjoyable and it had some fun moments, overall it was lacking. A Restless Truth is set on a long haul ship from America to England, with multiple different levels, rooms and other places to explore, yet we barely see any of it. I also struggled with the characters a bit, while I enjoyed Maud in the previous book and at the beginning of this one, I felt she fell flat by the end, same with Violet. I think Marske struggles to write good sapphic or even female characters, as they just came across so flat and not quite real in some ways?
As much as I was disappointed by this, I will pick up the next book because I want to see how this all ends. Especially since it follows two of my favourite characters from The Restless Truth.

While this is a lower rating than L&L, I think I enjoyed it a lot more in some ways. I do need to reread this physically and annotate, I think I missed out on some parts because I was struggling to concentrate😅.
I loved exploring this seaside town and Viv discovering her love of reading. This was just so sweet, which higher stakes than L&L which I really enjoyed. I had to listen to the ending 2 times because I wasn't sure if I heard it right, it was so cute🥺

What a sweat and fun novella! This had me laughing out loud multiple times and was just such a fun and fast read.
I loved Marie's writing so much and cannot wait for the rest of the series!

Stone Fruit is a tale of grief, self love and trying to fix relationships while learning to be on your own.
I loved the explorations of these relationships both with others and oneself. This was a sweet a tender sapphic story with a trans FMC and beautiful art style.

An interesting, harrowing Australian Gothic, about small town secrets, fairy tales and stories.
I was immediately drawn into this story and so curious about what really happened. The reveal was shocking, but I felt quite disconnected and confused. I feel audio wasn't the best option for this novella as it felt so disjointed and narration was confusing.
This was interesting but disappointing. It makes me want to explore more Australian Gothic and see what else this genre has to offer.

My Heart Is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones

Ooft, I struggled with this so much.
I really enjoyed The Only Good Indians, but struggled so much with this one. It had everything I should have loved, characters with tragic backstories, a diverse cast and full of slasher references. However, this just took SO long to get going. I ended up picking up the audiobook to finish this, but it just wasn't actiony or gorey enough for me for a slasher. I will say that when it got going it was full on. The last part of the book had my jaw on the floor, it was brutal and heartbreaking.
As meh as I felt for the majority of this book, I will be continuing the series. I need to see where this goes.

FINCH!😍
That's it, that's the review.
But no seriously, I loved this. Just everything about Finch and Frankie was perfect. From Frankie learning to love herself and Finch learning to love and take time for herself. This was just so perfect.
And oh the spice, the romance! 🥵
I can't wait to read Dove's book. This series has my whole heart

Easy Tiger by Ali K. Mulford

Another absolute banger from Ali.
This was again so fun and sweet and heartbreaking. Hawk made me truly want to cry so many times.
I loved how messy this book and Hannah and Hawk's relationship was. I cannot stop thinking about the walkie talkie scene! OMG, so embarrassing but ahhh🥵.
If you haven't read these book you MUST pick them up! They're such fun, addictive and fast reads. The perfect pick me up to get you out of a reading slump.

She's a Keeper by Ali K. Mulford

This was so much and just so damn addictive.
She's a Keeper is full of fun and tender moments, but doesn't shy away from the difficult and messy side of working with animals. This fueled my love of zoos and animals and made me just want to quit my job to work at a zoo instead.
I love Lark & Logan so much, they're the cutest couple. I can't wait to read more, these books are so addictive.
