I just couldn’t get into this one, I’m having a hard time finding a historical romance with pirates. The premise did remind me of a Kate Bateman book (“This Earl of Mine), but I did not like the hero in this book. I didn’t understand why he came back after all of these years.

To be clear, I am not someone who believes that workers are only productive when they fear starvation. That’s immoral and simply wrong. Economic anxiety is like high blood pressure: it’s a drag on energy and effectiveness, not a spur. Only someone who’s never been poor thinks poor people work harder when we take more away from them. - pg. 216

I didn’t actually get as far as 57%, I just skipped large portions of the book that didn’t interest me. I do like the idea of this book, I just don’t think I liked all of the ways it went about it.

I got really bored with this one, I’m going to try and devote sometime to this one later on. It might have been that I just wasn’t in the mood for it at the time I picked it up.

Other people have this on hold at my library and I’m not going to be able to finish this tome in 4 days, no matter how hard I try.

I think if I could find an audiobook copy at one of my libraries, I would continue this book. I am a fan of Sam Harris, but if I have to physically read this book, I don’t think I’m going to be able to finish it.
