I really struggled with this book in the beginning. The world building really left something to be desired. The first third of the book was very slow, but then it picked up. It's essentially a World War I romance, with a little bit of magic and lore thrown in. However, what the world building lacks the relationships make up for. It's a beautiful story that you will feel deep in your core.

Once I got past about the 50% mark the book was near impossible to put down and I finished in one sitting. I look forward to the sequel and seeing if the world building and lore comes together.

This book is so beautifully written, the story itself is hauntingly beautiful. There were twists I didn't see coming, and the ending itself wasn't expected.

For me this is only a 4 star read because of part 1, it drags sooooo much, but once you get to part 2 it really gets just better and better.
