epic and fantastical! A superb read that draws you into a world of magical beauty detaching you from reality but a bit slow and hard to read at times. A pre founded partiality for the fantasy genre needed to fully this book. Greatly recommend ! :)

Deeply heart rending and raw. This beautifully written gem is much needed insight into the sufferings of many.

Very provocative and poetic.

Very thematically interesting discussing man's obsession with eternal youth and the corrupting influence of capitalism mainly in the form of modern Western civilisation. The writing is a bit laboured as it tries to evoke a non-fiction quality.

very romantically written discussing themes of omnipotence. It seems to blur the lines between science and faith which may be a reflection of its antiquated context in which many scientists were still very pious men or the science element may just be a basis for the actual authorial intent of mankind's disillusionment with the notion of god. Victor Frankenstein ticks all the boxes of Aristotlean hero. He suffers the consequences of a fatal flaw and experiences catharsis at the end. Very interesting!

Ok here's my unpopular opinion.. There's no denying that Rooney is a brilliant story teller of human relationships and articulating thoughts and emotions, but honestly the writing was a bit mundane for me. I think the intended realism just ended up being a bit too matter-of-fact and uninteresting at times. And the ending was practically non-existent. The characters were just as confused about their relationship as when they started sleeping together. There was no real sense of closure in this regard and their characters only marginally develop as a result.
