I see some 2 star reviews here and can only think they are because this book made you uncomfortable.  While my uncle may have marched with the freedom riders, I’m still a white woman. A white woman, from a line of white women. And, while not a native, I currently live in Georgia. If this book makes you feel uncomfortable, READ MORE. LEARN MORE.

I loved the fantasy elements for crossing generations and showing (through magic) the power of truth, love and fighting against all odds.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 75%.
Literally couldn’t care less about any of the characters. Plot is so non-existent and predictable it is painful. I chugged through but realized why? I hate these characters and this book and do not care. So I stopped.

I wanted to love this book, but instead it just made me angry over and over again. I know I’m in the minority but as an actual single mom, I really strongly disliked the author’s representation of what that means. It’s hard but hard but having Jess “rescued” over and over by a man is insulting.  If you want to read a good light hearted rom com with an actual very good representation of a full-time single mom, I recommend Rosalie Palmer takes the cake by Alexis Hall.

Spoilers ahead!

The man literally rescues her:
Financially (over and over and over)
Because she has somehow only has one friend and support person?
Parenting (because somehow after only a few weeks it’s when you meet your kid, sorry but no)
Taking care of her parents
Adopting her Child

Single moms deserve better representation. And don’t get started on the need for therapy and mental health counseling in this book!

Sigh.
