things were less disorienting this time and i got to focus more on just how striking the prose really is. so many sentences stopped me dead in my tracks. the purple prose aids this entire series

perhaps it delivered on the cozy terraforming descriptions but at what costs? there is no excuse for the pervasive orientalism all over this

bujold's writing style is pure comfort and warmth. i am already too attached to penric and desdemona.

removing my review after what has come out about the author.

not big on crime procedurals so this was a tad out of my comfort zone but i thought this was paced well. it was engaging right away and surprisingly deep. the world-building and characters were fleshed out well for being so short. i thought han-gil and yoonhae shared an interesting dynamic. it was satisfying even if the mystery element ended up being lackluster for me. i would read more in this world for the relationships though so i really hope to see more from this author in the future. this was a really fun and engaging debut!
