amazing. written almost 60+ years ago and it has not dated one bit, at least not in my eyes (21 this year in late december!).
really appreciated the ending because i really did not even begin to imagine that it was going to end that way.
this book ended in a way where it felt like it went full circle.
like ah, that must've been the way they felt when- no spoilers!!
it was somewhat consistent throughout (at least it was more hot than it was cold???) but the part where he came across the dog made the read pretty lethargic for me- i understand the importance but i didn't really care for it.
aside from that, i was so fully immersed into robert neville's world- so invested in his story- cheering him on but at the same time, asking myself what the point of cheering him on was.
realistic? definitely to an extent. which i appreciated and respected Matheson for yet- it was a bit of a downer but you can't choose to have what you want, when you want it in life all the time.
the accuracy of the science? i'd say it wasn't bad. i didn't take notes and nor do i major in microbiology/virology (i major in pathology/pharmacology) but i did feel like the science/virology that was talked about in the book did have some grounds in real life (again- basing this off of 4 collective years of studying general biology + biochemistry + biotechnology + biomolecular sciences, 2 years in high school, 2 years at university. at least- there wasn't anything offensively wrong?? might be better to ask a microbiology major!)
anyway, definitely worth the read. a solid 4/5 stars.

4.25, really quick and interesting read. the level of world building in just this one book is astounding.
start was a bit slow, hence why i've knocked off 0.75 but honestly, everything else was a tick, tick, mcfricken tick.

amazing. i use that word a lot but seriously- it was. i couldn't even begin to find flaws in it. pacing is excellent. characters are fleshed out so well. world building might be one of its weaker points but i think that's greatly attributed to the sheer size of where this story takes place (the whole freaking galaxy).
maybe some things happened a bit too idealistically?? but it was carried out in a way that didn't seem too outlandish.
i get just a lil sad when marko's language is used because i literally don't even know where to begin to decipher it. could probably Google but a binch lazy.

3.5.
didn't enjoy this one as much. :(
regardless, still a really well done installment in the saga series but just somewhat weaker than the others in the series.
why? some things felt a little cliché. (a scene towards the beginning/middle of the book).
some things felt rushed. (a scene towards the end of the book that could have been executed in a way that did more justice for the character it involved).

4.25 - 4.5.
such a captivating read.
honestly, it was a little hard to get into a first because of all the info dump on the characters in the first chapter but it eventually became a lot more palatable when I started writing notes on the characters and sticky noted important information.
to truly enjoy and immerse yourself into this book, you need to be switched on.
no passive reading. passively reading this book will not do you any favours and this read will not be a rewarding read.
what kept me turning page after page was the curiosity that was paved in previous chapters by the actions/thoughts of the characters. once i started, i really couldn't stop myself.
love, love, love the transformation of dark nursery rhymes into full length stories.
definitely worth a read.
