Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner
4.0
While it was a beautiful tribute to moms, grief, and the connections Michelle has to her Korean heritage, I was ready for this book to end earlier than it did. The lyrical writing makes this a 4 for me, but the timeline and pacing alone would be a 3 for me.
Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo

I suggest reading/listening to the author’s note first to read with a deeper understanding.
Play Another Love Song by Meisha Gladney
4.0
Main character, Danielle Johnson, is a Black woman, music lover, communications major, socially anxious recent college grad, and she unexpectedly has an opportunity to be a radio DJ—her literal dream. I enjoyed following Danielle’s growth trajectory through this unique plot; Danielle is a character you can’t help but root for!
I appreciate that PALS manages to confront mental health struggles in the Black community, while simultaneously lifting up Black joy, love, and excellence.
Thank you, Meisha, for writing this world *and* for the playlists!
