An absolute must read for anyone who is in a creative-based industry. I cannot recommend this enough to fellow artists. It has changed my life and the way I view my artwork

As someone who grew up learning the systematic, chronological, political-centric teaching of Chinese history, I quite appreciated and enjoyed this book's emphasis on patterns in society, religion, literature across the time period. It gave me a much more in-depth, nuanced understanding of the time as opposed to facts and political figures that usually dominate. The main focus of the book seem to be observing how Chinese society transformed from the Han dynasty to the Tang dynasty through various cultural innovations and changes that took place in the North and Southern Dynasties.

I highly recommend this book. It will not teach you chronology, or go in depth into any political or famous figures, but it does very well in capturing an objective observation of the changing of eras.

I really learned a lot. I really like how the author acknowledged how initially he didn't believes these tales because he was never taught this at school and there were no records because the names were erased. I think this book is a great tribute to these phenomenal women

Great read. It's one of those books that slowly becomes more and more captivating the more you read. I am glad it did not have the typical plot I expected. Instead I find interesting turn of events, a rounded exploration into the characters. It seems almost obligatory now to find the next two books in the trilogy and continue my exciting literary adventures in the ancient backdrops of the Nile.

This is a story written for theatre, so the writing reflects that. It reads like a fan fiction than the canon 7 books. Of course this is not meant to be turned into a book, so I'll give it 3 stars instead of 2
