It's interesting, prose and plot, but I'm not interested in this genre.

The author has a  realistic acknowledgment of cptsd and trauma. This is a lie. It's merely an interesting fig leaf on the pile of shit that is utilizating with ham fists the experience of incest, csa, child abuse, war crimes, and rape.

Ok so the plot twist is
the dad who we see die randomnly in the middle of the book is now a ghost and he's haunting the house. Specifically the basement where the son boy is now sleeping. The son boy wants to know what this spooky monster is haunting him, so he snoops through his mothers belongings and finds a box full of polaroid photos. They show his mother's father commiting war crimes in Vietnam, and I assume this is what he was dishonorably discharged for? Anyways he confronts his mother and it turns out the son boy is a product of csa incest. His grandfather is his bio father. There's victim blaming by her mother, son boy's grandmother. No justice is found for her or her son. The ghost attacks them and the son boy is injured then they both escape. They sell the house and woops! The dad ghost is still haunting. A furniture mover finds the box of polaroids and then the ghost dad attacks. The End.

I guess it was sad and creepy. Idk, I don't care for stories that are boring traumaporn. I wish there was more creepiness. It

Well. It's not that often that I read such garbage and end up having nothing nice to say. Wait no that's not true. The good thing about this book is that I learned never to trust anyone who recs this author, and to never read shit from him. At least it was only 68 pages.

This is a thinly disguised story about hating trans women, mocking and fetishizing their bodies, and being completely transmisogynistic.

The plot is threadbare and vague, the horror parts largely based on evil black colored monsters, evil brown people, trans women who are sexually manipulative rapists, and the prose is lackluster and barren of anything interesting.

How the fuck is the cover art more intersting than the plot?

Ok so listen, the book is just 10 people sleeping in a dump of a abandoned building, the days going by very quickly and repetitioously. There's no breathing space to let characters develop so it's all 1 dimensional snap shots before woops, this character is gone, now. There is some exploration of the building but it's all largely the same place, aside from repeating 'graffiti' which is just 1s and 0s written compulsively onto walls. The threat is non existent.

If you enjoyed this book you need to kill yourself. There's really no hope for you.

oh cool weird racist shit of comparing asian bodies to food.

β–ͺ β€œGuess I’m the token black guy in the mix, huh?” 6 said as he swiveled the office chair from side to side, tapping his hands on the armrests. β€œAnd I’m Dominican, so I’m Hispanic, too.”

Acknowledging the token Black guy trope does not excuse it.

β–ͺ he let go and they looked all embarrassed when they saw me. Christ. She’s gotta be ten years older than him, but he must have Asianitis, too.

It was ok. The writing was pretty and well done, but nothing especial to write home about. I think I'd like it more if I knew it wasnt horror but a thriller. You know, despite what the book summary might say. There's zero paranormal or supernatural shit happening. Also the classism shit about the Bad Guys being
poor survivors of childhood abuse, low class yokels being rapist murderers
is shitty.

It took an hour to read. Easy peasy.

What a tedious novella. This isn't horror. Not, like, paranormal or supernatural or anything horror genre. This is more literary than anything else. I read it by rapidly flipping through the pages and gleaning the general plot. Took, like, 10 minutes to 'read'.

It's a story about abuse of power and misogyny and sexism. Boring, full offense, and the lack of apostrophes and indications of speech is extremely irritating to me. [Placeholder for a go fund me link to buy the author some apostrophes and periods.]

Also the lgbt rep? Nonexistent. Oh you get a flacid, pure wholesome [slur intended] white bread version of a girl having a crush on another girl. Thats it. At times I think authors just throw in a splash of lgbt rep just to claim its 'diverse' and thus becomes harder to criticize because 'omg, are you homophobic? you don't like a book with gay people in it? smh, you're horrrible!!'

Mm. Very standard lyrical purple prose white woman fairy tale. oh and theres a boring incest pedophilia twist thats not really a twist. Because all men [with dicks, you see, men have the evil bad penis] are evil rape beasts, amirite?

Which is such a disservice to everyone, frankly. Why is the author reducing people to their genitals? And why do their genitals make a person Good or Bad? Just stupid. It also adds nothing new or interesting to the discussing how a misogynist, patriarcal society harms people. Because apparently it only harms women [with vaginas, you see, the author has no concept of trans people].

It's just exhausting. If the author reads this, stop writing. There's enough people like you and you're not doing anything worthwhile. Really, I promise you there's a million joyce carol oates and jk rowling wannabes writing about fragile white women being oppressed by penis [men penis, because transphobia goes here].

Also what the fuck was with the random edgey livejournal entries about torturing someone? Embarassing.....

The only good thing out of this book was that I learned the author is dumb garbage, and I didn't spend 2 hours of my life reading just why that is.

Very superficial in all aspects. In understanding domestic abuse, mental illness, religion, etc etc. Someone would probably like this, just not me. I prefer a little depth and cohesion to my horror stories. The cohesion is certainly lacking to me. It felt like the author wasn't sure what ending they wanted, so they mashed together some weak concepts and was hoping it made sense to them and maybe the readers. Which kinda makes sense because the entire book is like that, just endless plot twists that doesn't pause to let it sink in.

Do I regret reading this? Not entirely. It was kinda scary. It's sort of like watching a low budget horror movie. It's not the best cult movie classic EVER but it was something to pass the time. I would not read anything else from this author.

Neat architecture horror, time loop except not quite loop thingie. I loved the prose and the symbolism produced, despite the brevity. I liked how they introduced the odd architecture of the house, it felt pretty natural and smooth to the narrative. I never saw the movie so I cannot say how it holds up against a different medium.

After hearing that the author is a racist pedophilia misogynist incest loving fandom freak, I have zero interest in reading any of their works.

If anyone reads this and wants a cool historical semi fantasy book in an Asian setting, go read  She Who Became the Sun, by Shelley Parker-Chan. It's a duology with explicit lesbian romance*, so you'll have plenty to read. As of writing this, the first book is out now.

*and I do mean explicit. There is one trans lesbian sex scene, which one may skip if you are a minor or do not wish to read adult content. You won't miss any of the plot.
