Die Marquise von O…: Schwierige Handlung, wirklich unangenehm zu lesen. Am schlimmsten ist natürlich das Ende. Lässt man es so stehen und zieht die offensichtlichste Moral daraus, dann könnte ich wirklich wenig mit dieser Novelle anfangen. Ich bin allerdings der Meinung, dass man das Ganze auch kritischer, reflektierter und realistischer betrachten könnte. Das Ding hat kein „Happy End“, bei weitem nicht. Vielleicht hat Kleist es zu seiner Zeit als solches gesehen, man weiß es nicht. Aus heutiger Sicht hat das Werk, dass durchaus durch spannende Charaktere und einen einnehmenden Erzählstil begeistert, aber das Potential, neu verarbeitet bzw. interpretiert zu werden. Letztendlich kann ich also nicht sagen, dass ich es nicht mochte, ich finde nur, dass es heute nicht so stehen bleiben sollte. (Vielleicht hätte ich mir deshalb gewünscht, das Nachwort in dieser Ausgabe wäre von einer weiblichen Person geschrieben worden …)
Das Erdbeben in Chili: Hier wiederum finde ich die Moral, auch wenn sie sehr (vielleicht etwas zu) offensichtlich sein mag, sehr gelungen. Zugleich lässt sich dieser Erzählung aber auch als spannende, fesselnde Story lesen, denn Kleists Beschreibungen des Erdbebens, der Gefahren und Katastrophen, ist bildlich und mitreißend. Vor meinem inneren Auge ist ein Kinofilm abgelaufen, und das in kunstvoller Sprache.

Wie kann in f*cking 111 Seiten so viel drinstecken??!?? Ich meine, ich habe unzählige Post-Its verwendet, meinen Textmarker und Kuli fast leergeschrieben und trotzdem nicht das Gefühl, diesem Buch auch nur annähernd gerecht geworden zu sein. 
Kein Ort. Nirgends war mein erstes Buch von Christa Wolf, und ich kann nun sagen: Ich verstehe, warum sie zu den Klassikern gehört. Kann ich behaupten, auch nur einen Bruchteil von dem verstanden zu haben, was sie hier fabriziert hat? Vermutlich nicht. Aber mit dem Anspruch muss man ja auch nicht immer rangehen. Ich habe mich trotzdem auf eine geniale Weise verstanden gefühlt, philosophisch-emotional-gedanklich-literarisch. Was unglaublich prätentiös klingt, ich weiß.
So wirkten die ersten Zeilen dieses Buches auf mich auch, denn das Ganze ist eben eine Mischung aus Bewusstseinsstrom und Dialog, Wirklichkeit und Traum und das alles auf knappe, bruchtückhafte wie ausführende, totale Weise.
Ich weiß nicht genau, mit was sich dieser Roman (?) auseinandersetzt, ich glaube, da gibt es unendlich viele Möglichkeiten. Scheitern, klar. Geschlechterrollen, Literatur, Weltfremdheit, Lebens- und Todessehnsucht (Rot). Jup, es steckt recht viel in diesen 111 Seiten. 
Ich bin mir recht sicher, dass ich Kein Ort. Nirgends nicht zum letzten Mal gelesen habe. Besonders habe ich nun Lust, mich mehr mit Kleist und Günderrode auseinanderzusetzen - ihre Werke zu lesen, ihre Briefe und über ihr Leben. Ich denke, dadurch werde ich dieses Buch vielleicht ein Stückchen mehr verstehen.

I can only refer to the review of @annierose as it summarises my opinion of this anthology quite well.

A Dark and Hollow Star by Ashley Shuttleworth
Did not finish book. Stopped at 32%.

Ich habe mich wirklich auf einen neuen Fantasyroman gefreut, und besonders durch die Dicke des Buches gehofft, dass es einiges an Tiefe und Charakterentwicklung haben würde. Zumindest auf den ersten 200 Seiten konnten mich aber weder Weltenbau (der etwas wie ein unnötig komplizierter Abklatsch von „Das Reich der sieben Höfe“ anmutet) noch die Handlung sonderlich überzeugen. Die Charaktere könnten zwar Potential haben, haben aber noch nicht genug Tiefe, um auf den ersten 200 Seiten voller Perspektivwechsel tatsächlich erinnerungswürdig zu werden. Zum Teil fand ich so trotzdem sympathisch, aber der unauthentische Schreibstil und die Länge des Buches haben mir dann doch die Motivation genommen, es nur deshalb zu Ende zu lesen.

sorry für das viele "it's complicated", aber es sind nunmal zwei Werke in einem, da ist es schwer, allgemeine Aussagen zu treffen 😅😌 Was ich sagen kann, ist, dass "Der zerbrochene Krug" zwar gut, aber nicht ganz so meins war, wahrscheinlich vor allem deshalb, weil ich den Witz von vor über 200 Jahren nur bedingt verstanden habe. "Das Käthchen von Heilbronn" dagegen fand ich wirklich toll, ehrlich gesagt hätte ich nicht gedacht, in einem so alten Drama (das ja sogar noch um einiges früher spielt als es geschrieben wurde) so viel Modernes zu finden, obwohl ich ja doch den ein oder anderen Klassiker lese. Und (!) die Liebesgeschichte war nicht ganz so problematisch wie in vielen anderen alten Büchern: Also ja, Käthchen ist immer noch f*cking 15, aber immerhin ist der "Love Interest" keine wandelnde Redflag, sodass ich das Ganze sogar irgendwie shippen konnte. (Vielleicht aber auch nur, weil ich zuerst eine Inszenierung des Stückes gesehen habe, in der die "Beziehung" etwas ebenbürtiger umgesetzt wurde.)

I liked this book. To be honest, my expectations were a little higher, simply because Neil Gaiman is such a highly praised author. I have heard a lot about his poetic way of writing, about the depth of it when dealing with different themes (for example childhood, memory or family in this case). And yes, there are a lot of quotable passages that talk about what it is like to be a seven year old boy, or to be a child, a person that has to lead a life, in general, to which I very much related most of the time. Yet, there could have been more depth in my opinion. Especially when it comes to basically philosophising about the world I recognize that the goal probably was to say a lot with a very simplistic yet poetic style, but for me it didn‘t work out completely. Instead, it almost sounds a little pretentious at times. 
Despite this criticism, I also fell in love with the prose. While its simplicity was too much for me on one hand, it creates an authentic perspective of a seven-year-old that is currently getting traumatised. I really liked the protagonist, felt what he felt, and related to him. Thus, most of the time it didn‘t take me longer than two sentences after opening the book to fall deep into the story again. I also like the characters of the Hempstocks, even though I‘d like to repeat my opinion about the philosophy concerning these characters: You don‘t have to explain everything about them, I know the not-knowing is (part of) what makes them so interesting, but you really could give us a little more to work with here. 
Finally, another highly positive aspect: I loved the plot. Or maybe that‘s not the right word because I read this book kind of piece by piece, mostly only on ten-minute train rides. But instead of destroying the story, this way of experiencing it, made me love it even more because it made the different aspects of it stand out more: There is the part which is a children‘s book, there is horror, and myth, and fantasy, and magical realism, and something unidentifyable, and also everything at once. 
You probably should‘t expect to read the best work of literature ever written, but a text from a highly skilled and highly imaginative author who knows how to bring you back to a time which you didn‘t think you experienced before picking up the book.

Only Oscar Wilde can write about 19th century sexism in such a charming way. You just can‘t pin down what he reproduces and what he makes fun of. 
After reading (and loving) The Picture of Dorian Gray, these plays which are mostly comedies, showed my another aspect of Wilde‘s writing and it‘s great: witty, dramatic and - again - charming. Of course some plays were more my cup of tea than others, but there was none which I really disliked. (I just found that the conflicts could have been a little more creative and not just some lost-family drama everytime ;) 
I think I would have understood everything better had I known more about the society Wilde criticizes here, yet I had my fun as it is as well. If you want a classic you can fly through, and underline basically every line which you recognize as one of Oscar Wilde‘s famous aphorisms, here you are.
