I read this book in one sitting because 1) I couldn't put it down and 2) it's pretty short but oh so rich. It made me laugh out loud multiple times and Matt now is one of my favorite characters ever. The writing style is so unique and amazing. It felt like I actually heard Matt talking about his life instead of an author's voice speaking which I really liked. Reading the synopsis, this book sounds like one of the most cliché YA books that follows the same plot line as hundreds of other books but it really isn't. It's amazing. Go read it and let your heart be torn apart.

I just finished Pride and I must say I really enjoyed it. I listened to the audiobook while reading along and it really was the way to go for me. I’m a white girl and English isn’t even my first language so when I read the first couple chapters, it just didn’t feel authentic because of course I heard what the characters said in my voice and that just didn’t work. But then I started the audiobook and it did work and it was cute and fun. I’ve never read Pride and Prejudice, only watched the movie but I still loved the parallels and it was definitely different - in a good way - and well done. It’s a short book and I really like that Zoboi kept it sweet and simple. It wasn’t dragged out and it wasn’t overdone. However, I would’ve like to learn a bit more about the Darcys. It was often implied that there is so much more to them but we never really got to see that. I still really enjoyed it: I liked the setting and how family and friends and home were included as a big part of the story. I also really liked the character development. I think that especially Zuri grew a lot. It’s wasn’t outstanding but I don’t think it had to. It’s a story about two black kids falling in love and it doesn’t have to have this crazy setting.
