Anansi's Gold: The Man Who Looted the West, Outfoxed Washington, and Swindled the World by Yepoka Yeebo
informative

3.75
I feel like Yeebo was trapped by the concept of this book. The epilogue is biting and some of the best in the book and that’s where she’s allowed to write something of her own accord. The book is well researched but Blay/the con is just simply not that interesting enough to carry the whole story.

Equal parts informative as reflective, this is one of those books I know my mind will wander to when searching for topics at a dinner party or in everyday conversation.

I wanted to dislike it. I wanted to be smarter, cooler, to see its contents and scoff at how pedestrian it was. But I couldn’t. Few books have gripped me so, eliciting audible gasps and tears. I wished to be above them but I wasn’t. This may be one of my favorite books ever.

Prose was tight, information was presented succinctly and cohesively to maximize understanding. Loved this book and learned so much, the information presented here will inform much of my life going forward.

Definition of a slow burn but it really has something to say about both relationships but love and life itself.
