Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren
3.0
3/5 ⭐️
chloe mills is hardworking and dedicated to her career. the only problem in her life is her boss, bennett ryan. he’s irresistible and bossy- a beautiful bastard. bennett has never been one to mix business with pleasure, but when it comes to chloe, he simply can’t resist. as their passion for one another grows, chloe and bennett must decide what exactly they are willing to lose in order to have each other.
this was a very quick and spicy read. i’m a sucker for a possessive, rich, bad boy male with a spot for only one girl. bennett ryan is absolutely that and more. the plot wasn’t necessarily gripping, but the spice certainly was. i appreciated how ambitious and headstrong chloe was, especially in terms of her career and academics.
“i was falling in love with her, and falling too fast and hard to easily find any footing.”

leeds and layla meet at a bed and breakfast and are instantly attracted to one another. as their love story unfolds, a terrible accident occurs leaving lays with damage to her brain. in an attempt to return to normalcy, leeds takes layla back to the bed and breakfast where they first met. when leeds meets willow, his ideas and morals are completely turned on their head. he debates between trying to help willow find answers and trying to save the love of his life with layla.
this was absolutely one of the STRANGEST books i’ve encountered and definitely not what i expected of colleen hoover. regardless, i still enjoyed the unique storyline and characters.

please please read trigger warning before you read this novel!!
merit lives with a strange family and she carries the burden of all of her family’s secrets. when she meets sagan in an antique store, it’s as though life has been breathed into her, until she learns that sagan is very off limits. as merit falls deeper and deeper under the lies and secrets that her family keeps, she finally decides to break the illusion of perfect that everyone tries to hard to keep. when her plan fails, she has to come to terms with telling the truth.
this book was pretty good. it was vastly different than what i expected and from what colleen hoover typically writes. the story was a little strange, but i really liked how hoover used this novel to raise awareness for mental illness. overall, a pretty eye opening read.

the witch doesn't burn in this one by Amanda Lovelace

the witch mirrors a woman by being powerful, independent, and indestructible. this novel is a celebration of womanhood, as amanda lovelace’s books are.
i wanted a quick and easy read to breeze through before i started my next book and this was absolutely perfect. i love how amanda can save huge things with so few words. also a joy to read her poetry.
“i’m not ashamed to say i’m my first priority.”
“no matter what they tell you, it is not your job to be polite to anyone who is not polite to you first.
-get up, you are nobody’s doormat.”

this book both amazed me and devastated me. the characters are so adorable and i love the chemistry between stella and will. despite being opposites in so many things, stella and will’s cystic fibrosis brings them together. i was constantly on the edge of my seat with the suspense, tension, and uncertainty of the story. but the ending was so heartwarming and the overall message is just so important.

Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas

this penelope douglas novel is not one of my faves, but i enjoyed parts of it none the less. age gap romances just don’t do it for me, but even though the main idea of the book isn’t something i really enjoy, i STILL gave it a 3.5 because the romances was so angsty and i’m a sucker for forbidden romances (even with an age gap). jordan is such a strong female character and i really appreciated that she knew exactly what she wanted and went after it. she’s a carefree spirit with an old soul. pike is swoon worthy (once i was able to ignore the age gap). this was a slow burn, taboo romance that douglas handled really nicely. i felt that story sort of dragged at times :/ but overall, i really enjoyed the characters and the plot, and i absolutely would have given it 5 stars if i was more into age-gap romances :)

i ABSOLUTELY understand the hype now. this book was so so good! i absolutely adored the characters and the storyline was so original. this book is sweet, but so so sexy at the same time. i loved being able to get to know stella’s life as she lives with ASD, especially because the author approached this topic so well. stella is so much more than her condition; she is strong, independent, and impossible not too love. michael was sweet, gentle, and understanding towards stella and that made me adore him so much. the couple is perfect for each other and their relationship is based on keeping a balance of power between them. overall, a refreshing and new take on a contemporary romance that you won’t be able to put down.
“if you can’t stand being with a woman who’s more successful than you, then leave her alone. she’s better off without you. if you actually love her, then know the value of that love and make it a promise. that is the only thing she needs from you.”
