The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien

Enjoyed this one and glad I powered through some of the more boring parts. The last couple chapters held quite a bit of action that I didn’t expect after I thought the plot had wrapped up. In any case, I was able to once again fully immerse myself in his writing and this world. Fully recommend reading this trilogy and watching all the movies!

I enjoyed this book! It was a quick read and it made me laugh out loud several times. Tina pretty much sums up the truth about life pretty accurately, while being hilarious.

4/17/2020: re-read this book to see if I want to donate or keep it on my shelf, and decided to keep it around indefinitely. It’s a wicked quick read, had me laughing out loud so much, and always provides some advice in a new light during different phases in life.

I really enjoyed Sally Rooney’s prose in this novel. It was captivating and raw, told in a beautiful way. The characters were vivid and it was easy to find bits of myself in them.

Really great nonfiction read. I find myself rereading this and moving around dog-eared pages all the time. Highly recommend!

Not a fan of this book at all. I found myself more frustrated than anything else. There were too many “main” characters for the author to talk about for any real character development to take place. Most of the dialogue seemed stiff and un-natural. Perhaps it was because this is a period piece, but the plot was too tidy. The historical parts seemed just thrown in and every single female in this book was just waiting to be rescued by marriage. I found the author more focused on trying to deliver lessons than about actually writing well. I stuck it out to the end just to see if there were any redeeming qualities, but there were none. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Christain woman and I can appreciate how much work goes into writing a book, but I’d much rather read something that’s remotely realistic instead of this book.

I LOVED this book! So inspiring, creative, light-hearted but so blunt and honest. This is my first book by Gilbert and I love her voice and prose. Highly recommend!

I really liked this one! My second of Lizs books, it was a much needed escape. I was worried that I wouldn’t like it as much as Big Magic, but it’s so different. The Italian part was definitely my favorite!
Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

Exactly what I needed to hear at this stage in my life. Rachel is like the cool Aunt that sees you for what you really are and forces you to look in the mirror and see it for yourself. Definitely going on rotation in my library.

Review #2: re-read this book because I felt like I needed a swift kick in the rear. What I really appreciate about this book is how it really changes my perspective and none of it is sugar-coated. It’s exactly what I need to hear, not what I want to hear.

Again, I really respond well to how Rachel shifts my perspective on certain topics. I really enjoyed this book and it fired me up! I know others have found issues with some of the content on this book, but I agree with Rachel on most things in here. She really lays it out quite simply how to set, and achieve your goals and how to dream bigger and level up!
