I really enjoyed this installment in The Mortal Instruments series. Again, a ton of plot development took place within a single book, although not as much focus on world building in this one. I highly enjoyed this and would absolutely recommend.

A decent final installment of The Mortal Instrument series. So much happened in this book! Although some parts tended to drag on, for the most part the pacing of this book was done well and there was enough going on to keep you interested but not overwhelmed.

This dual-perspective novel deserves an A+! I was hesitant going into this book as I wasn't sure it would be up my alley after hearing that it was based on the Roman culture, but it was done very well! Usually I prefer straight up fantasy but since this was only loosely based on the Romans and still had some fantasy elements, I could work with it. I was kept on the edge of my seat until the final chapter. Looking forward to diving into A Torch Against the Night next!

Sabaa Tahir is a master of expertly weaving plot points into a beautiful tapestry of a story. The adventures of Elias, Laia, Izzi, Keenan and Helene continue in this second installment of An Ember in the Ashes as Elias and Laia find themselves on the run for their lives in order to save Laia's brother Darin. New friends are made, old friends lost, and each character's mettle tested as they chose between acting on behalf of the Empire and the "greater good" or acting on behalf of personal commitment and loyalty to family and friends. This novel also had me on the edge of my seat until the final page!

This book was slow to start and then became a bit of a whirlwind at the end. Fantastical, lyrical and rich writing makes for a pleasant and exciting reading experience.

So-so

This was an OK book. Very predictable and events unfolded a little too conveniently... but for the most part an overall okay read.

All aboard the hype train! This book did a wonderful job portraying mental illness and how significantly it impacts not only the person with the illness, but those around them. The plot was intriguing and kept me interested all the way through the end of the novel. Even though the ending felt a little lonely to me, overall the book as a whole was very well done and beautifully written. Would recommend!

This was amazing! I was very happy with the ending of this series. Everything came full circle and I fell deeper in love with our main cast of characters. 5/5!
