I read this book in about a day and a half, so it’s safe to say that I was hooked. I still love Wrath (chapter 17 comments coming soon) and I really enjoyed the relationship between Wrath and Emilia twist and turn and maneuver through distrust. I found the world-building to be enchanting, with the breakdown of Hell’s hierarchy to be really interesting. I’m so glad we met the other princes because they were all fun to see!

While I did enjoy the book a lot, I liked it as a romance. The majority of the book focuses on Emilia’s sexuality and her attraction to Wrath, but the external plot was sprinkled in. Like I said, to me this book was a romance where I wasn’t concerned with the plot. When the book momentarily shifted toward the plot, I was confused and ultimately uninterested because to me, the romance felt like the priority — which would have been fine if the plot-based scenes weren’t packed with SO MUCH information that wasn’t flushed out. It’s unfortunate because I think that with more focus on the plot I would’ve considered this book fantasy first, but it didn’t feel flushed out and the romance was really the lead here. Which was fine because I really liked it as a romance!

Chapter 17: I was worried going into the book because I’d previously heard about Chapter 17. Yeah, not a fan. I understand why Wrath wanted that type of training, I do. But for a character that prioritizes choice over all, he thrust this abuse on Emilia under the guise of training without giving her a choice. It would’ve been the same whether she knew it was coming or not — she would’ve never been able to deflect the magic on the first try anyway. But at least she could’ve consented to training. With that being said, he apologized for his actions and really tried to earn her trust back, and I think he acted blindly with wanting her to really understand the threat. Not forgivable, but I understand and like him a lot as a character otherwise. This chapter was unnecessary.

Oh, and I always hated Vittoria. Bad vibes even when she was alive. And now? Nope.

I’m obsessed with Aaron Blackford. I audibly squealed too many times to count. The book was fantastic, I loved Lina as a narrator because was not objective in the slightest and really was so funny and fun. My only wish was that she communicated her concerns about the power-dynamic sooner, and oh, I wish it was longer!!

My favorite Wicked Villains boon so far, though I wish the final clash was a bit more dramatic.

I was loving it for the first half — I thought the characters were great and that the pining was PERFECT. Once they finally admitted their attraction, it all flopped. I normally wouldn’t mind the lack of spice except for one sole scene, but for two characters that had very consistent sexual thoughts, it was very strange for them to not be physical. Also, I HATED Naomi going to her old school. I skimmed the scene because it truly irritated me. It was really pointless and didn’t do anything for her well-being. Side note, why would Clara commit Naomi to that when she knows enough of her backstory?? The breakup was stupid, a plot point that was unnecessary and the ending felt too neatly wrapped up. Ethan’s main adversary suddenly resigned? Mhm.

Super disappointed, I loved the first half.
