First off I would like to say this: 3/5 stars is still considered an excellent book and reread for me in the future. I know some may consider 3 stars negative, but according to my personal rating, it's a great read. I don't have a particular scale but it is in my head.

This was such an adorable read! I actually laughed out loud during awkward/funny scenes, which is very hard for a book to do to me because of how shy I am when reading around others. I will definitely be purchasing a copy for myself (once I go through the almost 50+ books I bought during the December holidays). I highly recommend this novel for those going through issues pertaining to body positivity and/or standing up to bullying; the growth Felipe goes through is very heartfelt and could definitely help those who need the encouragement.

“After that I held each of your hugs a second longer, even when I would have rather been doing something else, because someday you’d be gone and I would wish I could go back to those moments. But now you are gone, and your absence hurts too much for me to think about those hugs, those games, those afternoons watering your plants. It’s been five years, and time hasn’t healed any wounds. You are all I think about some days, and yet I can’t bear to rememebr the way things used to be.”
this quote is my favorite from the book, speaking to me because of how i understand it completely. death of a family member is something i have gone through and as a teenager it was rough. though this book is more than about the death of nadir’s mother, it was a main concern of mine when reading.

more of a fall read, kind of depressing so far and i don’t want that at the beginning of 2021

i’m actually very happy with this book, it only took me between 24 hours to read and it was definitely my second favorite of the trilogy. loved the ending too!

i enjoyed this book a lot more than the cruel prince! i think it will be my favorite of the trilogy but i’m starting the queen of nothing right this second just to be sure.

with one of my favorite trilogies being the Gemma Doyle series, i had high expectations coming into this book and Libba Bray blew me away yet again. in middle school, i loved reading and rereading her best series (in my not-at-all-an-expert opinion). learning years later that she has another series completely shocked me and i was very excited to see The Diviners when i went to check out A Great and Terrible Beauty for the umpteenth time.
usually i am a very skeptical person when i read another book from an author i adore because i’m afraid it won’t exceed my expectations, but this book definitely did! the only reason i could really tell it was Bray was because of her style of writing, which is obvious most of the time: very descriptive in minor scenes. i think that’s also why i love her books so much is because i write exactly the same way, trying to be very descriptive so readers can get every exact detail and imagine it the way i would.
overall, i am very excited to start the 2nd book in the series and with the 4th one coming out soon, i’m going to have to take it all in while i can. hopefully a book tour is in her future!
