I really really loved this book, but something kept it away from 5 stars for me! I think there was just a bit too much happening and too many things to keep track of.

For example, the whole “Anna being a doctor” plot line didn’t feel necessary, and there were too many kids and siblings (IMO).

Overall i enjoyed this and would absolutely recommend.

I wanted more of them in the PRESENT!! With short stories I don’t need a ton of build-up, I want the now.

Also,
the whole “I remember holding him when he was born and telling him I’d protect him” gave off very weird vibes to me.

This book consumed my life from the second I picked it up to the moment I finished it. God, what a ride. Friends to lovers, especially second chance romance, can be a bit dull for me as I find the tension isn’t always there. But good lord, this book was SO good. I loved Dee, I loved how she was herself, how she was flawed, how she had triggers that felt real. Ben was so darling and an amazing book boyfriend, but not to the point where you were mad at how perfect he was.

This book was very close to being five stars for me, save for these points:
  • The whole “Ben’s dad isn’t his dad” plot line made sense as a motivator, but it seemed to fall to the wayside. The resolution was a bit weak IMO.
  • The cat was just unnecessary. Cute, but necessary. There’s no way you’re sneaking a cat into a baseball stadium??? Taking it on a road trip??? It felt like it dragged the story out a bit much.
  • I didn’t love the breakup-resolution. Dee telling Ben she slept with someone else MEANWHILE HE WAD AT PROM WITH SOMEONE ELSE DIDNT feel like a reason to walk away. And the public declaration of love has never been my favourite ending (but I see how in this context it made sense!)

This book, where to begin? I wanted to love this so much. The plot is great in theory, and having it billed as “The Holiday meets the Unhoneymooners” probably set some unrealistic expectations.

My main gripe with this was how it was in third person, but still sort of dual POV, and then also in present tense. It just threw me for a loop and I felt the execution could have been better.

The two main characters are wildly co-dependent as friends. I love strong female friendships but it just felt they babied each other.

Overall I found the book a bit disorganized, and all too convenient. The guys all said the right things, the fights were resolved immediately, no one faced any real consequences. There were far too many characters, in my opinion.

Also…
I thought the whole Matt/Abby storyline was a bit ridiculous. Holly said she didn’t want to go on the honeymoon, so why was everyone mad that Matt went?? Who cares??? Abby was right when she said it “just made financial sense.” Fight me.

I devoured this book! I don’t think it was groundbreaking, but it was the perfect thing to get me out of a slump. Brody was great, Hayden was fine, and I sometimes struggled to see their chemistry. But overall it was a fun read!

Did not finish book. Stopped at 11%.
Admittedly historical romances aren’t my thing, but this was a slog. I found the premise unsettling and why did they keep talking about his penis?? The writing was dry and stilted. Disappointed because I loooooove Sally Thorne, but this did nothing for me.

This book was fine! I’ll forget about it now that it’s done but I enjoyed parts of it! I didn’t find the story all that believable, and it drove me nuts that he kept calling her by her last name. Everything was a bit too surface level for me; and for a 275 book….it felt long.
