THE LAST “HIM” CHAPTER?? I SCREAMED?? Anyway here’s all my thoughts leading up to that point:

There were so many similar scenes with the protagonist being a fing idiot but the one that boiled my blood the most was when the 5 year old daughter was like “I know my brother molested little girls and I don’t care if he hurts me or touches my privates!” And mom’s response was to be like “you’re right sweetie he’d never hurt you!” Instead of 1. Explaining why that is bad and dangerous and 2. Asking how she even knew that. And then FORCING THEM into a sleepover against dad’s will???? Dad had more strength than me I would’ve simply Killed her. The protagonist pissed me off so bad. The whining. Like if it isn’t the consequences of your actions!! I would’ve been more sympathetic towards her had she shown any remorse or understanding that the way she handled what Noah did was so f*cked??? Like you deserve to get spat on and driven out of your home maam.
One of the first things she does after her son gets out of rehab for molesting little girls at a swimming pool is offer to take him… to the public pool… eye -
“He was more of a victim than those girls” “all he did was touch those girls” are actual quotes from the mom. IM GOING TO CRASH OUT. By the end of the book she’s STILL thinking this way. Also the whole tagline of the book being “we forgive murderers but not ped0philes?” Is so ridiculous. Murder can be a nuanced crime. There is no nuance or excuse for SAing children.

This shit had me whisper screaming and genuinely scared to turn the page. There was so much tension in the last third of the book I was having physical expressions of anxiety lmao, I was rocking back and forth. Once I got past the 200 page mark I couldn’t put it down.

Despite all the TWs the most devastating thing about this book is that I have to wait a year + for the next one.
