mercurialreading's Reviews (107)

Finished this up a few days ago. Overall, an okay book, 3 stars, but with a really good audiobook (4.5 stars). It was largely character-driven as opposed to plot, which I liked. I think getting the perspective of the four women, seeing their major and minor life changes were affecting them and those around them, was interesting. There were some moments that I didn't like, which they could be more me than anything, but I discuss everything in detail in my full, non-spoiler review on my blog: http://taleswithkayla.com/br-thesmartone/

Shit. That was one hell of a ride.

Wow, one hell of a book. I have always had a problem with mysteries- I figure them out way too quickly (thanks to a lifetime of watching Lifetime), but this one really kept me on my toes the entire time. I was expecting more of a "who did it" kind of mystery, but this book is really something more. It is a very twisted psychological mystery that has so many twists and turns I never knew which way was up, but that is what I enjoyed about it; however, be warned it can/is very triggering.
