I loved The Walking Dead tv show when I finally got around to watching it a few years ago. The characters were compelling, the story was action-packed, and the elements of danger, found family, and tragedy were balanced well when characters faced off against zombies and amoral people.
Of the comics, I prefer the black-and-white illustrations as it adds to the seriousness and terror of the comics rather than the full color comics. I was really surprised at how much darker - speaking to content - the comics were in comparison to the show. Characters were brutalized and beaten and terrified in a way that wasn't seen on the show. While I read the comics to see more of the characters I enjoyed in the show, it wasn't the most pleasant reading experience and I definitely felt compelled to take breaks when readings with the seriousness of the comics.
If I had picked up the comics first with either no knowledge of the show, or not having first watched the show, I'm not sure how long I would have kept up with the comics. However, as a serious fan of the show, I enjoyed the comics and seeing the characters again.

For years, I have been wanting to see more of Percy Jackson's story especially as he's canonically gotten older, and the inclusion of a Roman college in recent books. This fulfilled everything I wanted and more as it reunited the original three main characters of the series - Percy, Grover, and Annabeth - for yet another quest. This time the goal was to get Percy into college - except Percy and only Percy had the added requirement of seeking Letters of Recommendation from three gods or goddesses.
I have loved Percy Jackson since I was in elementary school and now having graduated college myself, I'm so excited for a new series of the main three. Percy remains the epitome of sarcasm, humor, impulsiveness, and power despite being older and his relationship with Grover and Annabeth remains as one of the best examples of friendship is family that I've read. Especially as they've now faced the end of the world together, been to hell and back, recovered from amnesia and still survived.

My friend recommended I listen rather than read to this on, as the narrator is perfect for Sophie, and I have to agree. Narrated by Jenny Sterlin, the novel of Howl's Moving Castle (in some parts) is quite different from the Studio Ghibli movie of the same name.
Sophie is less soft-spoken and more action-oriented in the book, even though she may be cursed to be an aged grandmother , she doesn't shy away from speaking her mind. One of my favorite parts of the book was Sophie's realization that she'd accidentality sewn magic into Howl's best suit by spiting his ability to entrap the hearts of young women all over - something that she made to be more true with the magic then sewn into his clothing.

Heir of Fire probably took me the longest to read to date of the books in the series. Not only due to its length, but I initially didn't like the multitude of point of view's presented though by the end my attention was snagged and I could tell the importance of knowing what was happening outside of Celaena's mission.
The book spends most of its time with Celaenaand her new compatriot Rowan (swoon) , Dorian and his new love interest Sorscha , Chaol's work with the rebel including Celaena's cousin Aedion , and Manon Blackbeak - a witch who is learning to fly wyverns in preparation for war .
The ending of this book did not disappoint! Also by the end of this book, I feel a little sad at myself for ever liking Chaol or Dorian when Rowan is obviously so cooler and gets Celaena and her history of trauma and trust-issues and has his own he's willing to work with her on.
Now, I do still like Chaol and I enjoy his rapport withCelaena's cousin Aedion who wants for nothing but Celaena's safety, but in a hazardous, impulsively-made action kind of way that Chaol is slightly at the mercy of. I think it's due to his Princely character but I go back and forth on Dorian's character and his resolve - to literally do nothing - that's partly because of how kept out of loop he is by the others. Yet, at the end of the book, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him.

I already loved Eric Northman, partially fueled by Alexander SkarsgÄrd's portrayal of the character on the HBO tv show, but Dead to the World (Book 4) solidified my love for the charming, occasionally wild vampire owner of Fangtasia.
In Book 4, Eric finds himself with no memories, and no memories of how he lost those memories, and suddenly (for his own protection) living with Sookie Stackhouse. During this novel, Sookie is also conveniently broken up with her on-again-off-again vampire boyfriend Bill. This opens up Sookie to a world of romance between her and Eric Northman who can tell he's had a somewhat intimate relationship with Sookie due to her having ingested his blood.
It was sad but honestly expected that after regaining his memories, Eric doesn't recall his time with Sookie but what is exciting is Sookie hoarding the knowledge of what happened over Eric. Whether that's because she's embarrassed or doesn't want to stroke Eric's ego is another story.

I've loved reading the books in this series and this one was probably my personal favorite beyond the first in the series. I was on the edge of my seat with Fireheart and his worries over Bluestar, and the dangers ThunderClan faced against Tigerstar - who was now clan leader of ShadowClan.
As an adult, when reading middle grade titles, there's sometimes the frustration of guessing plotlines and predicting solutions to the dangers that characters face. However, I'm pleased that though I successfully predicted some elements of the series, It's never to the point of disappointment or boredom as I've really grown to love the characters, and look forward to what they'll do next.
