Great book, lots of longing in it which I love. But the end, the last 100 or so pages, fell flat for me. Not completely sure why.
Read this about two years ago- feels like the story curse was over this story aswel cause I forgot almost everyyything but I remember it being one of the GREATEST books I’ve ever read- felt depressed after finishing it simply cause it was over.

Horrible writing and so confusing. Like a wattpad story. (I loved OUABH but this was just plain bad.)
That’s it? Seriously?
This story has such interesting characters, good storylines, and great potential as an overall idea. It was going in an alright direction. Yet it still fell so flat.
Now I understand why my friend said the movie was better than the book. Because I can see why this would be great as a movie, but God, it just simply wasn’t good (at all) as a book. It had way too many time jumps; instead of telling a full, ongoing story, each two chapters were about one specific significant scene. Like someone just thought “hey, this would be a cute scenario” but was too lazy to work out a whole story around it. And that ending?? If she had written a proper ending, if she had at least fleshed out that part, then sure, I could see past the emptiness of the previous 200 pages simply out of thrill for the actual romance confession. But leaving an already incomplete book unfinished just feels cheap. And if it was a stylistic choice, then it’s still just not my cup of tea, I guess.
Lots of potential, but not fleshed out enough.

I did not expect to genuinely enjoy this. It was my first classic, and I expected something pretentious. What I found instead was a poetic form of writing that was easy enough to understand and yet detailed enough to hit hard- way harder than most YA fiction I’ve read.
At the ending of Nastenka and the Dreamer’s story, I almost got teary eyed in class. (And I never cry at fiction.)
However, after the white nights, I couldn’t really care about “Bobok” anymore (which was also included in my edition).

Personally, I thought this had too many time jumps. However, it was pretty entertaining and original! Excited to read the second part :)
Beautiful art, and the story was sorta addictive. However, I do notice, as I’ve been reading more manga’s, that I find manga’s harder to follow than normal books. So I think I’ll reread this manga again, maybe soon, maybe when I get the next part, so that I fully understand the story.
(Might also do this with some other manga’s, but so far I’ve only read ones of which I’ve already seen the anime.)

Already saw the manga so it’s nothing new for me anymore, but really sweet and motivating!
One of my new favourites!
This was, as a chess-lover myself, really inspiring. Each time there was a specific opening or game mentioned I wrote it down and tried it for myself. (On the new chess set I recently got for my birthday <3).
The romance was also GREAT. Usually, I struggle with romances going too fast or lacking chemistry. This felt, mostly, full of chemistry and developed in a way that was fitting for the characters.
Random quote that fits their relationship:
“I can do it myself.”
“I know, but let me.”

-0.5 for the third act breakup and the romance getting a bit more inconsistent when they were living together.
