What a beautifully poignant story of sisters rediscovering their bond!
In this captivating tale, sisters Isabelle and Sylvia have been estranged for years after Sylvia marries a wealthy doctor who transforms her to gain acceptance in his elite social circle. Upon the passing of their mother, she leaves her cherished dress shop, which Isabelle has tirelessly devoted herself to, to both daughters. When Isabelle is called to serve in the WAAF, she has no choice but to rely on Sylvia to keep the family business afloat. It’s heartwarming to witness their relationship evolve as they begin to view each other through a new lens of compassion and forgiveness. Through their letters, they begin to share their life experiences, adding depth and richness to the narrative. The story masterfully shifts between each sister’s perspective, allowing readers to fully grasp the emotions behind every heartfelt exchange. As with all her novels, the author’s extensive research shines through, and the author’s note about wartime clothing rations adds an intriguing touch.

What an enchanting love story! This captivating tale is the second installment in the Road and Rodeo series, where we once again meet Isabelle and Reid, who first captured our hearts in The Pieces We Lost.

Erin is back with an exciting new series, Colson Creek, featuring the captivating Benson brothers.
In this gripping story, Judah finds himself at rock bottom, grappling with profound loss, until he crosses paths with Beckett. Also haunted by her tragic past, Beckett steps in to help run the farm alongside Judah. Their dynamic is like fire and water—intense and unpredictable. As perplexing and eerie events unfold on the farm, Judah and Beckett unexpectedly forge a deep bond, discovering surprising similarities in their experiences.
Erin masterfully captures the weight of grief, making each character's pain resonate on every page. The depth of her writing shines through, particularly as her characters are refreshingly mature. The witty banter between the brothers is genuinely hilarious, and Beckett seamlessly fits into their world with her sharp comebacks. The underlying mystery surrounding the strange occurrences on the farm adds an intriguing layer that kept me on the edge of my seat, eager to uncover the truth. The ending is nothing short of brilliant.
I can't wait to dive into the next book, which promises to explore the enthralling stories of the other Benson brothers, each grappling with their own trials.
If you love a blend of romance, second chances, and a touch of mystery, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. It's a journey you won't want to miss!

The stunning conclusion to the Crimson Moth duology.
This book seamlessly picks up right where Heartless Hunter left off, thrusting us into the thrilling pursuit of Rune by Gideon. In a shocking twist, Gideon discovers Rune engaged to a prince who’s critically aligned with Cressida, the formidable Witch Queen, as she schemes to reclaim her city. With stakes higher than ever, Rune and Gideon unite to thwart Cressida’s plans for total domination.
The palpable tension between Rune and Gideon is electric. Each time one of them finds themselves in a perilous situation, I was on the edge of my seat, eager to see how they would maneuver their way out. The story bursts forth with intensity and maintains its grip on the reader throughout. Packed with danger and intrigue, the pacing is expertly crafted to keep your attention rapt. I particularly appreciated how the characters were faced with morally challenging decisions, making their journey all the more compelling. The dual POVs of Rune and Gideon added profound depth to the narrative, immersing us deeply in their thoughts and emotions.
Having the opportunity to read and listen to this book was nothing short of incredible. The narrator truly brought the characters to life, infusing the story with her emotion and voice, enhancing the overall experience.

This captivating WWII historical fiction novel set in the breathtaking landscapes of Scotland is truly a must-read.
Cilla, desperate to escape the clutches of Nazi occupation in the Netherlands, boldly agrees to serve as a spy for the Germans, all while plotting her escape to Britain. However, her plan takes an unexpected turn when she is intercepted by a Scottish naval officer, Lachlan Mackenzie, who turns her over to British Intelligence. Faced with a choice, Cilla puts her life on the line as she becomes a double agent who has to work with Lachlan to outsmart the Germans.
What I found particularly unique about this book is its rich portrayal of Scotland's role during WWII and the intricacies of British Intelligence. The author’s vivid descriptions of Dunnet Head and the Orkney Islands leave a lasting impression, immersing readers in the stunning Scottish landscape and history.
Cilla and Lachlan are brilliantly crafted characters who embody contrasting traits yet discover profound commonalities as their journey unfolds. Cilla is fiercely determined, consistently striving to prove her loyalty. Meanwhile, the poignant relationship between Lachlan and his brother adds depth to the narrative, showcasing themes of heartbreak, forgiveness, and reconciliation. The spiritual elements woven throughout enhance the story’s message of redemption, making it truly poignant.

The story beautifully intertwines elements of history and magical realism, creating a poignant exploration of sisterhood.
We follow three distinct timelines centered around two sisters, Mary and Eliza, who are unjustly convicted of a crime in 1800s England and exiled to Australia. In 2019, Lucy, a college student seeking refuge from a troubling encounter, finds solace with her sister Jess, who shares her own journey beginning in 1998 during high school. As these narratives unfold, secrets emerge, revealing a mesmerizing connection: these women are mermaids, bound by a unique and mystical lineage.
I found this book thoroughly captivating. Although the initial pace felt a bit slow, it swiftly gathered momentum as the threads of the stories intricately wove together. The author masterfully paints a vivid picture of the convict ship and the haunting beauty of Comer Bay, making the setting come alive. The interconnected tales of the sisters are spellbinding, and the portrayal of mermaids is both imaginative and original. I truly admired the strength and independence of the female characters, while the male characters seemed to pale in comparison.
Listening to the audiobook while reading significantly enhanced my experience; the narrator excelled at bringing each character and the full spectrum of their emotions to life.
If you appreciate a richly layered narrative that combines history, mystery, and enchanting elements, this book is an absolute must-read. Mark your calendars for its release on April 1, 2025!

Set against the rich historical backdrop of Virginia and Scotland in 1774, this captivating fiction novel weaves a tale of love, sacrifice, and intrigue. Juliet’s father has orchestrated a marriage for one of his daughters to the Scottish heir, Leith Buchanan, as a means to clear his debts. While Juliet holds out hope that her beloved sister, Loveday, will be the one to wed, her life takes an unexpected turn as she finds herself embroiled in a scandal. In a desperate bid for a fresh start, she accepts Leith’s proposal and embarks on a journey back to Scotland. As she navigates her new life, Juliet is drawn into the complexities of Leith’s young children and the secrets that threaten to unravel everything.
The author’s exquisite descriptions of Virginia and Glasgow breathe life into the historical setting, immersing readers in a world on the brink of revolution. I was particularly moved by the strong faith shared by the sisters and how it intertwines with the Buchanan clan.
The evolving romance between Juliet and Leith is both tender and compelling, while the bond between Juliet and Loveday is refreshingly beautiful. Leith’s journey of growth and self-discovery adds depth to the narrative, making it all the more engaging.
Laura Frantz is a wonderful storyteller. If you’re a fan of historical fiction that seamlessly blends romance and mystery, this book is a must-read. Its enchanting storyline and well-crafted characters will stay with you long after the last page is turned.

Thank you to the Roar Reading Book Club for selecting this book for January’s read. This book has been on my reading list for over a year, and I finally picked it up. I listened to the audiobook while following along with the text, which enhanced the experience.
This captivating story is inspired by the true life of Martha Ballard, a 17th-century midwife in Hallowell, Maine. The narrative unfolds around Martha and her family as she meticulously documents her daily life in her diary. Her account takes a dramatic turn when she becomes a key witness in a court case involving a murder and allegations of SA by respected local figures. The relentless pursuit of justice she embodies is both riveting and deeply moving.
Martha Ballard emerges as a powerful character in an era when women's voices were often silenced. Her courage in challenging the legal system is inspiring. I also loved her relationship with her husband, Ephraim, which is explored through a dual timeline, adding depth to their bond. The author's ability to bring Martha's story to life is praiseworthy. In the author’s note, it’s revealed that 75% of the narrative is based on historical facts, lending authenticity to the tale. The vivid descriptions of the town, the wildlife, and the serene yet harsh beauty of the Kennebec River in winter are beautifully rendered.
The narrator delivers a fantastic performance, breathing life into the characters with perfect inflections that capture the emotional weight of the story.
If you enjoy historical fiction featuring a strong female lead and an element of mystery, this book is an absolute must-read.
