Just as readers learn (most of) the answer to the original mystery of the Ellingham kidnapping, Stevie Bell finds herself at the cusp of another case; poor girl can't get out of her own intuition's way!
With a big 'ol cliffhanger ending, I have no choice but to forge on to book 3!
This series is tightly plotted and smart, and a pleasure for a mystery-reader like myself!

I really enjoyed this series! Super well-crafted with lots of smart twists. I'm looking forward to reading the next Stevie Bell mystery!
This book was just all out fun! So relatable, and the Derry-isms were a treat! Every "mammy" of a certain age will cringe, laugh, and even tear up in recognition of Tara Gallagher's quest to find the woman she was before she wore the hats of mom, wife, and employee into her midlife. I figured I'd be amused--Serena is a FUNNY comedienne--but I didn't expect to be so swept up into such a well-written story. I LOVED this book!
The first half of the book was wonderful. I didn't enjoy the neat and easy ending in the second half. It felt too much like one character flipped a light switch to make a 180° shift in attitude. I don't believe that someone mired in grief and resentment for more than six years would thaw so easily.
(Audiobook)FANTASTIC! I LOVE listening to Brene narrate her own work! I have the paper copy in my online cart as I write this... Everything I listen to by Brene I want to go back to read again and again. Because of her work, I have hope I will be able to sort out my messy, imperfect, insecure self so I can live an authentic and vulnerable life of joy.
You'll see the ending coming...and then you'll marvel, mouth agape, at how you didn't see it coming.
A great, twisty narrative that will leave you going, <> "Whaaaa...? Oh.My.God!"

Audio. I LOVED this book! Before I was even halfway through, I was recommending it to others. The scope and tragedy and beauty of this narrative are stunning.
I loved a lot about this book. A dystopian novel that has many clear connections to current and past realities gives plenty of food for thought. There were parts that dragged on a bit. There were also parts that were stunningly beautiful. I feel like the ending was dissatisfying to me, but, maybe I wanted it to be wrapped up in a neat little bow, and the issues that the author is attempting to provoke thought about really can't be.
