Fast-paced YA novel that deals with grief, guilt, judgement, divorce and more. Wraps up a bit too neatly but otherwise enjoyable.
I was engrossed for the first 60% but the story eventually bogs down. Also, Franzen’s obsession with the main female character’s weight was really off putting.
Moderate: Body shaming
Out of Office: The Big Problem and Bigger Promise of Working from Home
Charlie Warzel, Anne Helen Petersen
Fascinating and well told, with lots of implications for real life.

This is probably a 5-star book, but I did not have a 5-star brain while reading it. Dark, hard and bleak… which didn’t help.
Intriguing YA novel that kept turning in slightly different ways than I expected. (That’s a good thing.)
I adore Ann Patchett as a writer and as a person. Loved re-reading several of these essays, and am just over the moon about the new ones (Snoopy’s influence on her writing career—how can you resist??).

Just masterfully constructed. The emotional intensity meant I read it slowly, and so wasn’t always clear on the callbacks to characters/events from previous chapters, but that was my issue, not Gyasi’s.
This is a remarkable novel told from multiple points of view. It’s layered and incredibly empathetic. Impressive.
