Shaun David Hutchinson has written another lovely book. While I don't think she book holds a candle to We Are the Ants (to be fair, I don't think anything will for awhile.) but it had the themes and the emotions that I have come to expect from SDH's books. I think everyone should give his books a shot if you can handle the themes of death and mourning.
Good book. Wish it didn't have the 'abused kids become abusers' trope because that sucks. Do any idea how fucking terrible it is to hear that the abuser in this book had a dad that acted like your's? How fucking terrible it is to fear turning out like him and then opening a book and seeing a character that did turn out that way? Anyway I liked the book I just have a lot of #trauma
You don't have to put on a brave face and pretend everything's okay... You can show people who you really are and you'll still be worthy of being of being loved.
I can't rate this book. It doesn't feel right but it, like We Are the Ants, is a book that I needed, a book that will help me, but more importantly, a book that makes me feel seen and validated even if my struggles don't line with everything in here. But I have felt depressed and felt like it is because i am gay.
I'm sitting on my bed, listening to the last chapter of this book for the third time and trying to stop crying, and i want to leave anyone who may read this with the following advice: read this book if the content is something you can handle.
