This book was so good it was a shame it had to end. The flow of this trilogy and the epic adventures make me excited to read them again.
"There were many wise reasons to do it...but the truth of it is...I did it for you."
The satisfaction of the deaths of those who earned it perfectly balances the peace brought to those who faught for it. What happened to Snaka's heart?

I love that these books are a continuous story. I haven't had any moments where something wasn't connecting. Each point of view adds so much perspective and detail. I don't dread any of the narratives.
" 'I would cross the oceans of the world for you,' he said stroking her cheek with a slabbed hand. 'Only death would stop me.' "

Reading this book took patience, but it was so worth it. I instantly wanted to read it again and it left me longing to learn more about the lore and history.
"Strange how we revert to the behavior of our childhood, when back in the presence of our family."

I would not change anything about this book. Will read again.

Won't read again. Was not a good sequel. The last 100 pages were not worth the rest of the story. Was full of details and character introductions without any plot to connect everyone. Just skip it and read the third book.

Will read again. The sequel took away from this experience (just skip it). However the 3rd book brought back the life that the 2nd book lacked.

Where did Roen go? If they were obviously captured why would the people of Orisha not have seen them taken (Inan's mother)? There's so much about this new civilization but not much about Orisha (a war is still happening). What happened to all of the magi being connected (why did Mama Agba give herself for it not to matter)? Who are all of these new gods?  Why was there a prophecy if it doesn't come true? Why does the medallion give them magic back? If Inan sacrificed himself for Zelie to live why wouldn't she bring him back to life with her magic? What did their connection mean and why? I would've loved a villain, Mae'es, and Roen's (where'd he go?) perspective. What happens??
