The first book of the saga The Selection is seen from the perspective of Prince Maxon. It is a short book, rather unnecessary.

Developed in a universe, where the social classes are divided by castes, which go from 1 to 8. You are born into a caste and that social position is for life. America is a five. It is a tradition that the rightful monarch of Illéa hosts a Selection in order to find a wife before coming of age to reign. Every woman from ages 16 to 21 can enter the Selection, but only 35 women will get elected to enter the palace and live with the Prince for a couple of months. America doesn't want to enter the Selection, but the people who enter it get a small remuneration for it, so she enters it and gets selected. As she didn't want to be in it in the first place, she goes reluctantly, but everything changes when she meets Prince Maxon.

Rowan is a second child whose very existence is considered illegal. She and her family live in Eden, a place on planet Earth, but isolated from its toxicity. In Eden, everyone has contact lenses that have been implanted right after birth. Every legal citizen has to have them. In order to keep the resources available, only one child is allowed, women after giving birth are sterilized. Rowan has been incarcerated in her house her whole life. To not be caught. Until one night, she decides to go out and see the world. Eden was supposedly created to keep the Earth's inhabitants safe, but there is a different story behind the destruction of the Earth than what people believe.

The aesthetic and the characters are amazing. But I personally didn’t like the plot twist.
