If this gets adapted into film I already know I would be creeped tf out, and sad. Reid writes about aging like he’s experienced being 95yo himself.

I had this book added to my horror tbr shelf by accident— finishing it now has me decided that it does kind of belong there. I’ve had to put this down and read three of those dark-themed books off that list to help myself, only to realize after picking this one back up that this might be the most horrifying read I’ve had so far.

But Tara’s prose is beautiful and deliberate that the book really does read like fiction. To be reminded every other page that this is a memoir was a horrifying experience, nearly even had myself convinced it was otherwise if it weren’t for those footnotes. No, the events that happened in this book were very much real and Tara is very much alive and educated and thriving and honestly and respectfully, *insert lucille bluth’s good for her pic*

I need this to be adapted on film, or somewhere I can see the novella within this novella in action. And maybe some of the gore stuff too.

I’m not sure if it’s the narration that made this a boring reading experience, but I suppose the life of a barely working class vampire could also be just as mundane and miserable. Love that the protagonist was able to find her way to self-empowerment at the end, but I’m not very happy to have had to wait until the last few paragraphs of the book for it.

I’d like to think there’s a special place in hell for parents who exploit their children for their own agendas.

Beautiful writing but everything felt so intense that I almost forgot there was a plot. Also got confused about the timeline a bit. Also, damn.

Graphic, violent, absolutely horrifying but also perhaps everything a crime thriller should be. It definitely felt like I was watching Mindhunter but from the pov of a final girl trying to catch two serial killers— had me hooked from start to finish.
