I couldn’t put this book down. If I had five minutes to wait for someone to meet me, I could slip a few pages in on my phone. I stayed up late reading multiple days and even woke up earlier than usual one morning hankering to read and drink some coffee.
This book leans more romance than fantasy and has a lot of political tension. The magic system wasn’t super complex or detailed which works since it’s a stand alone book. There just simply isn’t time!
Now the characters… I wanted to throw things at them! But in the best way. There was banter, tension, awkwardness, frustration, the whole works. I enjoyed the storyline as well as the character development and none of it felt forced or like a plot twist was just randomly added to switch things up. The entire book just felt right.
