✅"A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have". This is just one of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy's (an electronic book not too dissimilar to a modern day tablet) handy tips for any would be intergalactic traveller planning to trek their way across the universe.
✅ For years my partner has been telling me I need to read David Gemmell's Troy trilogy and for years it has been on my tbr pile. Finally this year I ticked it off my list and boy it was sure worth the wait.
⚱️A realist reimagining of the legend of Troy and it's demise, David Gemmell proves he is a god of heroic fantasy. A master of his craft, Gemmell's work is character driven and focuses on the exploits of some of the major players of the Greek and Trojan conflict including Odysseus, Hector and Andromache.
⚔️ Devoid of the gods, the trilogy is seen through the eyes of Dardanian Prince Helikaon and places the fate of the two warring nations solely in the hands of their mortal heroes. Gemmell deftly explores the struggles and burden that come with destiny and does so with great compassion and humanity.

A celebration of female emancipation, The Girl with the Louding Voice is a bold, courageous and powerful story that will capture your heart and set you on an emotional journey.
Daring to dream, Adunni was determined to better her life; to become more than a child bride and to receive an education so she, herself, could become a teacher and one day give back to her community.
A child of 14 forced to become a woman before her time, Adunni flees her small, impoverished hometown of Ikati for the bustling, wealthy city of Lagos where she secures a job as a housemaid for fabric tycoon Big Madam. Tantamounts to modern day slavery, Adunni receives no payment for her hours of hard work and sees her physically abused on a regular basis. Beaten but not beaten down, Adunni finds her louding voice which will set her a path which will change her life for the better.
Set against the backdrop Nigeria's vast poverty gap, this story is an insightful read and shines a light on the shocking inequality and exploitation suffered in modern day Nigeria.
