I think this book really completed the trilogy effectively! Annihilation is kind of uncanny enough to stand on its own but the background that Acceptance illustrates the complete story quite well. This was my favorite book in the Southern Reach. I thought it was really emotional and compelling to get into the Director's head posthumously and see her history and the journey of her efforts to reckon with the alien encounter of Area X. She's sincerely a great character. It was also very interesting to see what became of the original Biologist.
It's not a bad book but I saw it more as a stepping stone from Annihilation to Acceptance. A lot of important things happen very slowly and I do think the slow creep of events is interesting but I would struggle to read this book again. Maybe I just didn't pick up on everything, I'm sure I would notice things the second time around.
I read this about a year or two ago. Very intriguing. I loved the Biologist as a character and how her relationship with her husband was portrayed. This book was refreshing although I can understand some readers being frustrated by the style of story telling being a bit obscure. I really liked it.
I really appreciate this memoir. I was raised Shi'a muslim so I was always told a certain image of religion in Iran. Satrapi portrays a very intelligent perspective on life in the political reality following the Islamic Revolution and the violence enforced over the years.
Great development for the character Death that really spoke to me personally. I've yet to reread this but I am looking forward to when I can approach it again with fresh eyes.
This was really entertaining! An excitingly written mystery. I don't personally like Vimes or any of the guard as people but they make good point-of-view characters. I look forward to each book I read in this run because I know the plot will be satisfying and laid out well.
